Call me crazy, but I mount my rings on a pica tinny rail as far apart as possible. Attached is a pic of the last scope I mounted on a buddies gun last week.

I've been seeing some pics guys are posting lately on some forums and groups with the rings rather close together. Is there a reason, or a happy medium? Can you really be too far apart?

Just curious.

As long as you have enough room to mount all the crazy; bubble level, ACI, drop cards, rmr, laser range finder, scope cam, flashlight, nvgs, thermals and all the other wild things people mount to there scopes you should be good!
Wider mounting seems better from a stability stand point. I think a lot people mount more center out of convinece for adjusting the scope with in the rings for eye releif and scope shadow durring inital set up.
As long as your eye releif is good, screws are properly torqued, ring caps are reasonably level and not torqued to be crooked and you can mount every gizmo you need ther is no reason the distance should affect preform.

I would space them as far apart as possible while maintaining proper eye relief. Less chance of damage if a dropped rifle lands on the extreme ends of the optic.
