Gunsmithing Mounting Vortex with 20MOA base

Scopes generally function better when centered in the tube.
Normal adjustment range is going to allow you to zero from close range (20 yds?) center at about 100yd and maybe be able to dial all the way out to 600-800 yds.
But it won't be centered.

With a 20MOA base the scope will be pointing down when centered.
Causing you to Raise the POA to the target.
When you sight through it center will now be out there at 600-800 yds.
You should be able to dial in 100 yds, and out past 1000 yds.

The 20MOA base allows greater sight in range.
Funny thing is, the scope don't know.

You will just have to dial your elevation quite a bit when first zeroing to compensate for the 20 MOA of cant built in to the rail.

one other thing to be aware of is to make sure you scope has enough elevation adjustment built in to be able to offset the rail; which you should plenty be fine with a Vortex Viper gen 2 as they all have plenty of elevation adjustment travel to over come the 20 MOA and will leave a little extra to allow you to adjust to zero.

thank you guys for the answers. The thing that seems bizarre to me is as of Vortex instructions I am to turn elevation turret all the way down until it stops, then take turret cap off and zero rifle with internal adjustments. When zero'ed at 100 yards set zero stop and put turret cap back on at 0 on the scale. I just wanted to make sure that this process wouldn't change with the 20 MOA base.

your scope wont know the difference between a 0 and 20 moa base. same process
