I'm goin bartlein or rock on my tube for sure, I just need some help figuring out what contour, length, and twist rate to go with. I'm sure this could be put in an FAQ section somewhere, but I use this site as a learning tool, so any help would be appreciated. I am thinking of going with a 26" or 28" MTU because it is 1.25" for 5" whereas the m24 is 1.20" for 4". But other than that I have no idea on twist rates or if anything over 26" is even needed. HELP ME!

M 24 contour , 1-9 twist for 180 Bergers you don't need the extra weight of mtu. You can get it in a 1-8.75 twist from frank if needed also.

26" will be fine. You'll get full powder burn at 24", but lose some velocity at theat length. Barrel contour boils down to weight and what your use is. If you're going to hump it, you may want to save on weight and stick to a thinner profile.

Thanks for all the info so far! Really all I'm gonna do with this rifle is carry it to a treestand and sit, get to a hill and sit, or go to the range and sit. So, weight really isn't a big deal to me. I'll be launching 140 ballistic tips at whatever moves, 160 accubonds at deer and such, and I may try out these 180 bergers you speak of (vld's I suppose).

I went through this a few months back on my .260 build. I chose to go with a 22" M24/M40 from Kreiger. MTU seemed a little excessive. I'm like you though, carry it somewhere and sit with it most of the time, so weight wasn't a huge concern of mine.
