Long story short, I cut 11" off my 6.5mm Creed. Before I was running it braked with 42.9 gr H4350 at 2,905 fps in a 27" 8-twist Bart. Stopped using it in comps, put suppressor on it for hunting, was flattening primers. Reduced load to 41.5 gr.

Now that it's only 16" should I reduce further?

I've never ran a bolt gun this short. I have about 30 of the remaining 41.5 gr loads left and want to reload some more now that I have a shorty suppressed yote killer.

What are guys that run Creeds this short loading? Thanks!

As far as pressure goes, barrel length has nothing to do with it, you just end up with unburned powder and reduced efficiency. RL 17 will yield one of the most efficient loads(sure there are others) in a 16" barrel.

Thanks! That's what I guess I should have asked and was worried about...too much powder not being burned properly and ending up in my suppressor. I will look at rl17.

You don't really hear about H4350 being a train wreck in a can, now if it was H1000 I'd be looking elsewhere. There are powders that will increase the case efficiency and up your speed, but if the load works cleaning the can not an overly big deal.

According to Quickload, with 41.5g of H4350 under a 140gr bullet you're looking at about a 98% burn ratio in a 27" barrel and about a 95% burn in a 16" barrel. Not a huge difference IMO, and as noted above should not make a difference in peak pressure.

Funny thing that's a bit counter intuitive... Decreasing powder charge will actually result in a lower percentage burn ratio. The higher pressure, hotter loads burn more efficiently.
