Hey all,
New member here. Looking to start doing a little bit of distance shooting. Here is what I am looking to do. I have an A-15 made by DPMS .223 flattop. I am not for sure on this, but it seems that I should be able to make shots up to 500 yards fairly consistently with this rifle. Not sure how accurate the rifle itself is, but I don't think I am asking to much of it. The best scope I have ever used is the 3-9 that came with my walmart special pellet gun. So either of these scope should be a good improvement.

My first question is how much better is the eradicator than the tactical. I have seen articles on the eradicator that seem pretty impressed, I have seen article on the 4-16 tactical mueller, I have not seen much on the 8.5-25. The price is $100 difference with the tactical c0ming in at in cheaper at about $170. How much difference are these to going to have. Is one better than the other for my purposes? Another question I had that is a little of topic is that I want to build a suppressor for this setup next summer when my paperwork clears. Does a suppressor affect long range shooting?

I have a bunch more question, but I will keep browsing the forums before I start asking. I could not find much on the tac scope above.

Any input on proper etiquette for a new member would be great too. Thanks

Left a triscut on your other post and followed you here, but if you are serious PM me and I will help in any way I can....

If I don't know I might have seen a post as far as who might know.

For the OP....if you have to ask buy a 308Win since it has great cheap ammo and incredibal drop charts available....plus being studied to death....and for the scope...a Super Sniper 10x is the best investment....you will learn with it and when you are ready to upgrade you will get most of the investment back.

Not trying to be a dick but if you really want help ask me in a PM...as many questions as you want and I will do my best to help.

I had the Mueller tactical 8.5-25 on a Savage MKII .22. I wasn't impressed with it and sold it shortly after. Wouldn't hold zero very well and it has 1/8 min. clicks. I bought a used super sniper 16x and haven't looked back. I would for sure buy a super sniper. You can find them used sometimes for 260-270 or new for around 320.00. Slightly more but wayyyyyyy better scope.

Hope this helps,

Alan

I have a friend who mounted the Mueller Eracticator on his Remington Ultra Mag .300.

The Eraticator has very clear optics and held zero just fine, even on that hard kicking monster.

My main complaint is the Eraticator doesn't come with very long eyerelief. We got boinked in the eye a few times. But on a gentler rifle, I'd say it would be a good choice.

Super Snipers will focus down to around 10 yards I think. Tons of elevation and windage adjustment on these too

Breathe,

Is this a serious question? An 8.5-25 power scope on an AR 223? To shoot out to 500 yds, is like putting racing slicks on a Yugo. Match your scope to your rifle and your cartridge. Think 10x tops. If a $300. scope (like a SS 10x) is beyond your budget, then save more or take up a cheaper hobby.

I hear air soft is fun....

Really, as in any endeavor, you have to crawl before you can walk, and walk before you can run.

Learning is a bitch; read more, then ask questions. There may be no such thing as a stupid question: but it seems sometimes the world is full of inquisitive idiots....

Sorry, but I got up on the wrong side of the bed today....

Some days are just like that. I have an eradicator incoming. Honestly I don't have a problem with overkill on the magnification. With more than twice the magnification over a super sniper that ought to give me an pretty good handicap. I am still interested in the side focus, but I think my brother is going to pick one up. Hopefully I will get a chance to review it and put a little more info out there on it. When I get a real sniper rifle. I might consider a super sniper. Until then I just want to be able to plink really accurately. Plus This ought to save me money on a spotting scope for awhile too.

I've got an Eradicator on a Savage .204 and it is ok. It's worth about what you pay for it. I rarely take it above 18x or so though to keep it clear.

That being said, you money would probably be better spent on a Super Sniper 16x for around $300 (if I remember right). Check www.samplelist.com for some really good deals.
