Muzzle brake for a 308

I just bought a receiver set and am now in the phase of collecting the rest of the parts. I've decided on a 20" 308 Barrel. In the mean time I am in the market for a brake. I'm not real concerned with noise as much as keeping the rifle on targer. Some have suggested a SJC Titan. From the you tube video it looked like he was shooting a 22, it looked as though it did a great job. What suggestions might any of you experienced big bore AR shooters suggest.

Rainier Arms is a good company to deal with +1 on that

As for a good brake I have been looking into on myself for my 308 after a recent issue with my neck. I am considering the "Badger FTE" myself as it will allow for the barrel to be threaded for a suppressor and can be removed and replaced without having to be timed/indexed each time it is removed/replaced. Aside from that bonus feature the Badger FTE has a pretty solid reputation and will probably be the one I purchase. Let us know which direction you decide to go. I enjoy learning from others experiences as well as my own.

I use the BABC on my MWS also, great for reducing muzzle rise, as in, there is none if you are driving the rifle as you should. As far as indexing it every time you remove and reinstall it, I think you might be able to use a peel washer rather than a crush washer to keep from having to do that, although I haven't tried it yet.

Re: Muzzle brake for a 308

I would have to say that the BABC on a M1A for comparison is not apples to apples. The way the stock is set up on these rifles kicks the muzzle up because the recoil drives above the butstock center. There is also more mass in the op rod to add to the recoil.

I have had more than dozen M1As in all configurations. My LMT MWS has much less muzzle rise with an A2 birdcage than a standard M14 birdcage.

Re: Muzzle brake for a 308

I have run a pws and a jp. The pws had soft push and the jp had soft smack. Both FOULED up the crown of my barrel something horrible in very few rounds causing bullet groups to open waaaay up.

Not running any brakes for now.

My buddy just put a Benny Hill Rolling Thunder on his 308 AR. Very nice. I'm either going to go with it or a SJC Titan

No, it isn't. If you would read everything in my post, including my signature description, then you'd be answering your own question.

I have the PWS FSC30 on my own rifle and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a .30 cal brake. It takes the recoil down to that of a 5.56 or less.

Killshot, just an FYI many ppl including myself have the Sig lines turned off and your POSTS include nothing regarding personal experience. And it seems that is still the case as far as the BABC is concerned.....

Re: Muzzle brake for a 308

I have the PWS PRC on my DPMS LR 308B and absolutely love it. It took the recoil down to about the level of my RRA M4 maybe even less. My shooting partner has a JP on his DPMS and it does it's job equally well but it is fugly compared to the PRC.

POF makes pretty damn good breaks.

Re: Muzzle brake for a 308

I vote for the PWS FSC30. Makes a lightweight 308 carbine a joy to shoot, and the flash level is noticeably diminished, too. Running without one I would often get a moment of 'white-out' in the scope if I was shooting late evenings/early mornings, as in hunting. At $100 it's a pretty good deal compared to some brakes out there.

Re: Muzzle brake for a 308

Do any of these breaks have a negative effect on accuracy? I have the BABC on my LMT 16 inch, I love the recoil reduction, but I have had no experience with another break on this gun to compare the accuracy before and after. My 260 barrel will be here this week and I also need a break for it but a 20 inch is soley for long range, so I do not want just recoil reduction.

I have very little experience with this subject but my rifle appears to be more accurate with the brake on. I will test a bit more to verify if this is the case. The guy I shoot with that has the JP claims his groups tightened up nearly 30%.
