My adventures with a RimX and a tunacan tuner

Well my first post in a quite some time and it’s going to be a lengthy one. I had heard a lot of good things about the tunacan 22lr barrel tuner from reddnobb, so I decided to give it a try. It arrived in the mail today, so after work I threaded it on and headed to the field I shoot at. I shot 5 round groups at each of the ten full settings on the tuner to see where the tightest nodes were. Setting 2 gave the best results at fifty and they were repeatable. So I moved out to 200 yards. First mag I didn’t hold wind and was at edge of target so I held wind and sent 15 rounds. Target was icky, so I put up a new sheet with four aimpoints and tried smaller adjustments from 2.25-3.5. I shot a few groups at 200 last week and will post a pic of one for comparison, but at setting 3.5 I shot one of my smallest 200y groups. I then moved the target in to 100, shot at setting 3.5. The one group I had a really bad flier on shot three so I sped through the mag really fast. Then I moved in to 50y to verify setting 3.5. I was a little skeptical at first but the proof is on the paper. I’m 100% convinced barrel tuners work. And now for the pictures.

I wasn’t sure how many photos I could add at one time so here is the group from last week versus today’s 200y group.

Here is what the magnetospeed shows for this lot of sk long range match. And a picture from before I got my tuner, a little something to hold you over till I get home from work.

Rifle barrels can be challenging to tune with a barrel tuner. It's never as easy as shooting a box of ammo with each group at a different setting to determine when the barrel is truly in tune with the ammo.

To assess your tuner setting(s) more fully, shoot a box of ammo at 50 yards in groups of five to see the group size variation. With SK ammos they can vary quite a bit. When using a tuner, if the ammo itself is relatively inconsistent, it is difficult to know when the ammo is responsible for what's on the target or whether the tuner has had a significant role. One or two groups that appear consistent may not be telling a complete story.

Once a tuner setting is found that seems to produce better results, try it by shooting a box of ammo in groups of five. If the tuner groups still have quite a bit of group size variation, it may be necessary to begin again.

My buddy is buying a tuna can and very excited to see it!! We will test it on the vudoo v22 ans the rimx with a lothar. The rimx is proving to be shooting about 1.5-2 moa at 100, and 1.5-2.5 moa at 200. My vudoo seems to be shooting 1-1.5 moa at 100 and 1-1.5 moa at 200

And with no further ado, here is a picture of my baby.

Oh it makes me happy every time I look at this. The chassis will be cerakoted northern lights, a cooor shifter that changes from titanium blue to metallic green. Rings will be burnt bronze to match the scope.

Are there any targets that can be shown with before and after Tuna Can results? Not just single groups but a number of consecutive groups that shows how this tuner may be able to reduce vertical spread?
