Im almost positive that its the bolt release spring.. But can anyone confirm this? the bolt release is pretty much stuck up.. i can pull it down with my finger nail to try to lock it back down. but that doesnt always work.. its not stuck in a sence that it wont move. There is just no pressure holding it. so as it is right now, when i cycle the action the bolt pulls out if i cycle quickly or too far..

Re: My bolt is falling out of my M24!!!

i have tried, and im thinking the spring may be bent. Last time i had it apart to do a trigger job the spring fell off the work bench and i found it under my foot.. im thinking i bet it while standing on it.. stupid me.. im just wondering if anyone can confirm that it would be the bolt release sping causing the problem as i dont want to wait a week or more for the part just to find out the i ordered the wrong part.. i cant think of it being anything else.

Re: My bolt is falling out of my M24!!!

I would check and make sure its not rubbing or binding, clean it to make sure its not sticking from dirt or gunk. Do you have another 700 with a spring you can take out and try? I can't imagine a spring costing that much. I would order it and then try the above while I waited. You could call around to various gunshops in your area to see if they had one in stock. That would cut down your wait time. If its not the spring, then you are probably going to be out more in time than you would be money.

Re: My bolt is falling out of my M24!!!

Probably just gummed up with shit, I've had that on 2 700's

certainly gives you a surprise to cycle the bolt and hit yourself in the face with it

Re: My bolt is falling out of my M24!!!

Chances are its not your spring. You would have had to do something pretty jacked up to bend that spring. Its most likely the tab of metal on the actual release attached to the trigger that connects with the bolt release on the action. They usually need to be bent forward or backwards slightly to ensure the proper relationship.

Thanks everybody... im spending this morning trying all of the above... and yes, its definately a suprise when you pull that bolt back and smack yourself in the face with it. LOL. the spring is only about $5 from midway.. im going to check everything this morning and if i cant figure it out im just going to order a new spring tonigh.

Re: My bolt is falling out of my M24!!!

My husband had that issue with his M24. But it was because he replaced his trigger guard with a DBM setup and the release was hanging on the bottom metal. Everything worked fine with the action out of the stock, but went south when assembled. Does your bolt stay put with the action out of the stock?

Re: My bolt is falling out of my M24!!!

Does it still do it when the barrelled action is removed from the stock? If no, then the stock/bedding is interfering. If yes, then something is bent, out of alignment or gummed up in the bolt stop/trigger assembly.

Re: My bolt is falling out of my M24!!!

well i pulled it apart and also pulled apart my M700 PSS.. The spring was in the correct position but MUCH smaller in diameter than the spring on my 700 PSS in .223. It had a slightly visible bend to it, to i pulled it all apart and cleaned everything.. No binding anywhere.. i put a slight bend back into the spring and put it back together. It is still not working propperly 100% of the time.. but i got the bolt back in with the bolt stop up.. looks like i will be buying a new bolt stop spring.
