My wife loves the quilting stuff. Its an oldtime thing to do in her familly. I love a good quilt for some good sleeping so she talked me into making one.

I will prolly just give this one away after its done. I added the bdu pockets on the top pattern. It was an afterthought. Next time they will be added into the top before final quilting.

Here are some test run shots of me using the quilt on our Honeymoon the cabin.

Re: My camo quilt

That's cool. If you don't have anyone in mind and are willing to ship I will gladly cover shipping if you send it to my cousin in Washington DC. He's finally state-side (getting to know his wife) after spending pretty much every day of his life in Iraq in the Marines since 2002. He's very deserving and would greatly appreciate it I'm sure. If you already have someone in mind then please disregard.

Just a thought.

Very nice. </div></div>

+1 perfect idea

Re: My camo quilt

I would be willing to do a raffle or something. I got to finish it first though. I am hand quilting all the final stitching. Its taking a long time. I have to get my post count up before I can add anything in the trade section. I am all for donating to fellow enthusiast and especially the good folks that have served this country.

Here are some more pics of the back and stitching. This is my first quilt so take it easy on me. Please.

The stitching ain't perfect but thats what makes it look handmade. I plan on making more with some killer designs and more camo.

Re: My camo quilt

Its killing me but she says if you don't do it by hand then its not a real hand made quilt. I of course have been arguing this fact with here. But her ole aunt hand quilted and she is hand quilting.

The next couple of quilts I do will definitely be all machine. I guarantee that.

You're a dick and nobody likes you. Stop thread crapping on everyone's threads and GTFO if you don't have anything useful to say. This guy is doing something consructive with his spare time unlike you and from the sounds of it will do something quite noble with his new found hobby that can better humanity and have a positive influence on the lives of those who defend your freedom. What have you done today?

Re: My camo quilt

I have tried to tell her several times that dudes don't sew but she just tells me to get back to work.

I told her that I will only use cool designs. Absolutely now darn flowers. I will leave them up to her.

I will probably do more with camo, camping and maybe a farm design.

Yeah, I'd be concerned about the quality of my stitches being critiqued here on the Hide as well. Some of these guys can be brutal and clearly don't know good quilting when they see it

Re: My camo quilt

I have been talking to the wife and we might try and make more in camo colors with pockets to sale. It will take awhile to find some nice fabric though. I love the pockets. They would come in handy to just put the trucks keys in.

Dad always said, know how to cook, clean, and sew. So you're never dependent on a woman.

Just sayin'. </div></div>

Your dad gave you some real good advice. It pays to learn anything and everything you can. Learning about quilting has also got me wondering about some tactical practical things also.

Re: My camo quilt

Nice work! I've been sewing since I became a Boy Scout. In Cub Scouts, mom or dad would sew my patches on my uniform, but once I became a Boy Scout, I was on my own. It's a handy skill to have. It's also good to see you putting it to a practical use and making a kick-ass quilt!

Re: My camo quilt

I've done enough clothing repairs over the years to save myself some serious money. I even sewed a pair of shoes back together with fishing line. Everyone in the family brings me their torn stuff to fix now, lol.

Ain't nothing girly about sewing, it's a good life skill to have... unless you like walkin around nekkid.

Besides, it's good practice for emergency sutures!

Rock on. I fix my own clothes also. It takes a real man to fix/sew his own clothes. Thank you all who had something intelligent, positive and encouraging to say.

Re: My camo quilt

I have to admit that it struck me a little bit funny at first to have someone on the hide talking about quilting, as that is what my grandma and her little old lady friends do. But, after looking at your quilt it is pretty cool and I wouldn't mind having one like it myself. It's also pretty cool that you can say that you made it yourself. Hell, if I knew how to make one I'd make a quilt. Keep the thread alive and update it with your progress, it's actually pretty interesting.

Re: My camo quilt

Been sewing most of my life--learned the basics as a kid then learned about web straps and heavy canvas helping out in the para-loft while in the Navy. Hell, I was who taught my kid's mom to sew. Now I sew and repair saddles and tack
That quilt looks pretty cool -- good job

Re: My camo quilt

Thanks guys for the comments. I have lots of ideas on where I can take this. I have mentioned to the wife a couple of great ideas.

Camo snuggie shouldn't be much of problem. Just a little planning. I think it can be done.

Re: My camo quilt

The best blanket I've ever had was a quilt my grandma made me.

She saved up Blue Jeans that I wore out for about a 5 years then made the entire top out of 'em.

Thing weighs about 40lbs but its awesome!

Re: My camo quilt

New business idea for you, you can sell them online...I like the pocket idea, and it is nice that you made one for the wife so she can sleep in the "ready" position. Hope you both sleep with one eye open and dont have any dreams that are too real...lol.
Nice job.

Re: My camo quilt

Nice sleep cover, fella'. Any jackass that mocks a man for knowing how to sew is ignorant and probably a latent homo. If grizzled old mountain men and cowboys sewed their own clothing unabashedly, I figure I'm not too "manly" to pick up a needle.
wink.gif

I learned how to sew as a young'un. My mom raised me and often had to work two jobs to support us, but we never had much money. That meant that if I couldn't afford to buy something I had to learn to make it. I was heavy into martial arts and had a particular interest in the ninja and their accoutrements. Shinobi Shozokus and throwing spike sets were way beyond my means, so I made my stuff. Next thing you know I had a little home side business making gear for my buds. It kept me in decent running shoes and a couple pairs of parachute pants!

If your quilting hobby relaxes you and allows you an outlet for your creativity, then it is a worthwile persuit. If that hobby also allows you to help others, then it becomes a noble persuit.

Stitch on!

Re: My camo quilt

I am getting a lot of great feedback on this one and it is very appreciated. I don't pay much attention to the ignorant remarks or negative people. They are who they are.

I will have to gather more material do do a batch to sell. I will be incorporating pockets in most of them. I really like the pocket idea for just stowing keys while camping or hiking. I have found lots of patterns that would be killer. I promiss to show all of them here.

I got to make an outdoors theme quilt first for my brother for Christmas. I love the material.
