My experience with the new Barnes 112 grain match burner

Loaded 30 rounds for my 20 inch 243 Winchester. I did zero load development. Jumped right in at the same load I use for the 105 Hybrid. Velocity was measured using a Labradar.

•Winchester brass
•IMR 4451
•Cci 200 primer
•Barnes 112 match burner
.010 off the lands.
•Average velocity 2921 fps with an SD of 13.

Right 3 shots are at 996 yards from a 243. Calculated BC was .320 G7.

Left 2 shots are from a 6mm creed using the same bullet at 996 yards and the same calculated .320 G7 BC lines up for both.

Second picture is 5 shots at 100 yards.

Today I did a little more testing with the 112MB. First I shot a ladder test using my AIAT chambered in 6mm Creedmoor. I found a nice Node right at 2940 fps.

Then I put together a seating depth test to determine the optimal seating depth. My 6mm creed barrel has ~1400 rounds on it. It shoots well but is pretty long in the throat. Loaded to magazine length 2.960 they are jumping .060. I proceeded to seat deeper and shot consecutive 5 shot groups at 200 yards. Here are the results.

If those are all five shot groups, the .070 and .095 look best.
Did you chrono the seating depth velocities?
I've read that changing seating depth can move the MV off the accuracy nodes.

I did have the LabRadar running while shooting the seating depth test loads. I didn't see too much difference in velocity but near the end the mirage was getting pretty bad and it was hard to make out the 1 inch orange dot at 200 yards. They are mostly 5 shot groups. .095 was only 3 shots and I accidentally shot one of the. 070 bullets at the .075 target. Thanks for the input!

looks like you have some potential there! I shot another 50 of these over the weekend and they were spot on from 200-1000 yards. Even jumping .080 didn't seem to matter.

Ran thru 400 of these and have loved them. Very consistent. 46.8gr h1000 gave me an average of 3025 from a 26 inch tube.

I had to switch to the DTACs since I have a comp this weekend and no one had any in stock, not even barnes direct.

The 105 match burners aren’t bad either. I ran them out to 950 today with good results. Not bad for the $20 a box I paid for them.
So is everyone running the 112’s in a 1:8twist? I want to try them.

I'd think a 7.5 or 7 would be better. Besides straight 6BR, how many 6mm run an 8 twist anymore?

I guess I’m old school, I still run a 1:8 on a Dasher. I’ve yet to find a reason for a faster one. A 105 or 108 Berger is my go-to’s.
I only ask on twist because Barnes says 1:8 for the 112gr....I’m like you though, I’d assume a 1:7 or 7.5 would get the full bc potential of the 112s.
I may go 1:7.5 on my next barrel. Who knows.

Tried some out the other day. Got good groupings with 41.2, and 41.3 grains. R16
I know it states 41.0 us the max, but no pressure signs on primers. Could probably push a little more. Don't see the need too.

I am at 39.9 gr RL 16, Peterson SRP brass, which had me at about 3000 before the speed up. Afterwards I was at 3040 fps. Jumping them .020" and recorded half moa groups at 800.

20 worked well for me in the last barrel. This one I am at 40 because of a long throat and they still seem to be about the same.

This almost my exact load. 39.9 grains RL16 but with ADG brass. 3035 fps. ES of 7. 3/8" group at 100 if I do my part

I've been running these in my BR for a few months. 2-3 matches, with excellent results.

29.3g H4895 at 2775-2800fps (95+ degree weather had me running a bit faster than my normal 2775 speed)

I'm at .030 jump.

I’d have to look at my book, but I believe I’m jumping them about .100. 38.5, 38.9, and 39.1 all shoot .3 or less. I have a magnetospeed so I haven’t been able to test velocity at the same time, but I believe I’m in the 2880 range. 39.3 of Reloder 16 is a little faster, around 2900. This is out if a 22” 4 groove Proof Research barrel.

I’ll jump in a give my experience with the 112 MB.

Got them .010” off the lands. Don’t have the oal in front of me at the moment. But I got them moving at 3035 fps. With a SD of 2! They group .4 moa all the time every time. And .3 moa if I’m having a great day. Taken them out to 1500 and still hold that .4 moa. Maybe I just got lucky, but couldn’t be happier with them.

@Hiwayman92 - Thanks for the H4350 feedback. I have a couple hundred 112gn MBs I'm going to 'tinker' with. I did email Barnes for a recommended jump, and to my surprise, they replied. 0.010" is their recommended starting point. It's a starting point, I'll see what it ends up at. I'm using a 1:7.5 Bartlien 26" long, Hornady brass, CCI BR-2 primers, and H4350 are my components. Cartridge is 6CM.

I’m running them at HS Precision Mag length, which is like .100 off the lands for me. I haven’t even messed with seating depth.

I used the same load as my 115 DTACs in my 6XC and the 112s performed exceptionally well. I don't have my reloading book in front of me, but I want to say 39.3 grains of H4350 in Peterson brass and BR2 primers. I just used a 0.320 G7 and it was perfect at 615, 725, 850, 926, and 1004.

Fresh barrel on my AIAT from Straight Jacket Armory. 24 Inch 6mm creedmoor. Barnes 112 MB. These were loaded fully on a progressive press. (Dillon 650) and I throw powder from a Charge master. After shooting this group and I also exploded a rock the size of a softball at 996 yards with a 4th round impact. These 112's continue to hammer. Especially for the price.

I had a interesting phenomenon. My gun has 100 rounds down the barrel and all brass is fire formed now. I loaded my best two load recipes (39.3 RL-16) and 39.0 H4350 and shot them both at 250 yards. I had a 1 plus MOA group with 4350, and 1 plus MOA group 5 shot, 1/2 MOA 4 shot group with RL-16. I also noticed light ejector marks, so apparently I’ve gotten a little warm as things are breaking in? I can’t imagine a stability issue at 6k feet with a 1:7.5 twist barrel...

There are a lot of variables here. How far are you jumping them? Also what brass? I am running Starline brass, CCI200 primers and 41g H4350.
