My father passed in 2017. I retired in April from the NYPD. Now I finally have time to catch up. My father built the grip area up and the stock was just covered in small dings from alll the use over the years. We both got our rifles in 1985 or 1986. Mine is a LH. I stripped the wood and redid the stippling. All the metal was bead blasted as well. I'm pretty happy. He would be proud. I'm taking her to the range today to see how she shoots.

I would be interested in captions on the pics describing materials and methods - that looks fascinating. The more info the better. Beautiful work.

Trade secrets!! Stripped it with chemical stripper and sanded. 100 grit, 180, 220 then finished with 320. Next I applied truck bed liner spray for the black. I used Chempak for a finish. Hand rubbed a few coats then sprayed it. All the metal was bead blasted with #10 glass beads to remove all the oxidation.
