Here is my ladder test that I did to see where my accuracy node would be on my .243 Im working with right now. I read through alot of the books, read through all the sticky's in the forum. Measured my bullets, prepped everything etc etc. Well it finally came time for me to fire my shots on my ladder. I warmed up with 2 factory bullets to make sure my rifle would make hits on the target at 450yds. Well I found the hits on the 4x8 sheet of plywood. I then went and bought a roll of paper so I could see the holes easier. Cause let me tell you a .243 hit on a piece of osb plywood is almost impossible to spot.

I believe my 5,6,7 loads could be worked on more as well as 3,4. My 5,6,7, are probably going to be my better loads. These bullets right now are also .010" jammed into the lands because I was also working on my max load. I went 2gr's over the book max's but I didnt see the need to go further so I stopped the testing there. Plus the bullets being jumped might not have alot of room in the case with all the powder going in there.

Do it again so you can determine a better pattern. They are kinda spread out.I've found 300Y on a calm day to be the best distance for a ladder.Did you let your barrel cool between shots?

Here's one I did a year ago. It's obvious where the best node was.

Re: My ladder test results with a pictures.

I did this per the way as the stickies in the forum. One shot per load. It was a windy day for me here in KY. But I was under the impression not to worry about the horizontal but more of the vertical. Im 150yds farther out then you do you think that would have anything to do with the spread outness.

Re: My ladder test results with a pictures.

The wind can affect the vertical too if the terrain is chopped up causing eddies that could push a shot up or down a little. The farther away your shot is the more the wind will affect the shot. Not to mention the wind is blowing you and your gun around.

I'm trying to help out not toot my horn or anything.

My main point was to do it again to confirm your original results. Then you know for sure if your results are repeatable.Maybe you pulled a shot or two ???

Re: My ladder test results with a pictures.

Yea I hear you. So I doubled up the test and the same shots were the numbers it showed to work on. And today isn't as windy as the other day. So now I'm fine tuning my loads for more shooting this afternoon. I'm gonna ne a pro before long. Next week I'm getting my 7mmRm done, and now that I just bought a built .338L instead of finishing mine. So needless to say my shooting is about to go up exponentially.

Yep, can't wait either. I'm trying to get my .243 ready for the mammoth cave ky shoot. Good thing I have places to shoot 800+ to get my dope ready
