My M40 Tribute rifle

This is my M40 tribute rifle
Wanted something relatively affordable but with a wood stock so being a Marine I decided on a M40
The rifle started off a Remington 5R in .308 that was coated to look like it was parkerized
I added a Timney trigger set to 2.5 LBS
The stock is a Dep Taylor CNC's M40 stock with period correct buttpad and sling swivels
The scope is a Redfield/Leopold M40 3-9x40 sitting in a Badger M40 base
Added a period correct sling and did the finish work and staining myself
had the action pillared and bedded
I do have a Mark AR 6-18x40 that will have .308 calibrated elevation turret's that I will use to fully test the rifle out but when I shoot vintage matches ill swap out the Leopold for the Redfield
This is my return to bolt gun shooting after a long absence (kid needed tuition so I sold my bolt guns) and the pictures don't do her justice.....she is dead sexy

Here is my M49 spotting scope and M15 tripod
when I first got them they were pretty raw so I restored them
the scope case is apparently a real old one and the spotter is old because it has a brass id plate not the tin ones I've seen on newer ones
missing the front cap but hopefully one day I can find one or have one made

Very nice man! It is very inspiring to see that rifle, makes me want one...

Very nice! I think I saw this when you posted on a another forum. What barrel did you use? It may be the angle but it looks heavier than the one I planned on using.

My first shots with my rifle
shot off a ALICE pack and rear bag
these are my hand loads
I would say as it sits this rifle is a 1/2 to 3/4 inch shooter maybe more if shot from a stable bench rest

Looks good.

I wrestled with swapping out the Redfield for a turret scope but it made the gun that much more enjoyable.

Have you played with the action screws at all to try to tune the group?

I have both and rings on both so I can switch them out whenever
just need to re-zero

the guy that did my bedding job used a gauge to show how tight my action was and really I don't think messing with the tension of the action screws will change much
right now the rifle has less then 100 rounds down the pipe ...more like 60 ... and I just need to find that sweet combo of powder and bullet and I should be set

My suggestion was not based on seeing any issu s with your groups don't take it as criticism. I just found with mine I t made a noticeable difference. I posted on what I did someplace in the 40 forum and it was pretty clear there was a sweet spot.

And I wasn't taking it personally ..... for now since I'm getting back into the precision rifle thing I want to focus on the dope behind the rifle ;) and the reloading

Keep me updated. I'll probably learn some good stuff from your work. I'm liking the 42 of 4895 and a 175 SMK. I only have 20 more pounds than f 4064 to burn through until I experiment more.

Good tool to have. Ive wanted a Labradar for awhile now but just haven't prioritized it and I really should.
