I will post more pictures and range report, once I get some clips and M2 ammo.

A gentleman was selling it locally. It's not CMP documented but, the overall condition of the rifle and age signs/patina on the cheek rest eyeholes, kinda wanna make me fork over the $25 and have them research it for me.

How is the bore on that? I just got my first Garand, and the addiction is quickly taking me over.

Beautiful piece. I have to admit to being a little jealous. My first Garand showed up at my house a few weeks ago, and what is a man to do? I had to let the poor thing in, and give it shelter-----and use it, of course. I love it. I had a chance at a Springfield M-1D, but I didn't have the current cash.
Enjoy.

Great rifle, brings back memories of when I use to conduct sniper schools using M1C/D's.

Those rifles shoot better then most people give them credit, even with the 2.2 M84 scopes. Learn to use them and it's note difficult to get constant hits on the E targets up to 900 yards.

We used mostly M72 match ammo though.

Very nice Garand. I have been wanting an M-1C or M-1D for a long time.

One thing you can look at to confirm is the Drawing number on the barrel, if its a D7312555 its a M1D, the barrel date looks correct for a M1 D, congrats on a nice find. Report back when you get some ammo.

Very Nice! Been looking at the CMP site at the C and D models for a while now.. if only the budget would allow for it

I put rounds down range at my local 50yd indoor facility.

The lower two, 3 round groups were at 25yds with iron sights. The center one, is 25yds, with the optic. The highest group was fired at 50yds, with the optic.
I was using ATK/Federal CMP3006N cartridges. I'm still waiting to hear back from them, about the trajectory.

I know that it is really close to be shooting with it but, I wanted to make sure it printed on paper. Eventually, I'll get outside and put it through its paces.

Great looking M1D. These things are a blast to shoot. Just something about shouldering an old American war horse. I'd go ahead with the research.

Update!
The drawing number, is D731555 A162B.
So, my next investment/bet, will be $25.00 to the CMP for documentation.
