I decided that I want to try my hand at some pistol competitions, so with that excuse off to the gun store I went. I am going to start off in production class so I purchased a M&P Pro 9mm and a few extra mags. I saw a used Glock 35 that I am trying to talk my self into as well.

Re: My new M&P Pro

Nice! I use a regular M&P 9 for IDPA and steel matches and enjoy the heck out of it! Had one been readily available at the time, I would've sprung for the Pro. You should have a great time with it.

Enjoy!

Re: My new M&P Pro

Nice gun; I have the same one.

Btw, it's Production Division--your class is based on your skill level, equipment is division.

Re: My new M&P Pro

I shot one after a match last year that my buddy had wasn't vey long after that I bought one for myself.really like the feel of the pro and the way it handles, should make you an excellent production gun

I'm eyeing a M&P9 full size for IDPA too.

It seems the newer guns are doing better but still a possibility.

Really? I hadn't heard that.

I know that mine shoots 1/4 of that. 2" groups at 25 yds. and probably would do better if I were better at it. And mine already has a few thousand rounds through it.

I'll admit that I added an Apex trigger kit to it for IDPA, but I hear that the Pro already has a better trigger pull.

If you look at the equipment that IDPA winners are using in sanctioned competitions, you'll see that the top two are S&W M&P and Glock. Nothing else even close. There's a reason for that.

Um, no.

I just sold my m&p9 fs with apex sear for a pro 5". I really wanted that increased sight radius because I will never carry this gun.

Stock the trigger is horrible, +6lbs. I have done the burwell trigger job and its still 5lbs or more. Pretty disappointed. Going to order the apex sear soon.

That was the old design. At about 30 yards I am getting about a 6" 10 shot group, and I am sure if I took my time I could do better.

Re: My new M&P Pro

Distributor sites are showing a new "optics ready" version of the M&P handguns coming out. In both 4.25 inch and 5 inch. Looks promising, if they get released soon.

I have the 4.25" version of this in hand but have not yet had time to shoot it. I have a J Point sight for it too. I am hoping to throw my threaded barrel in it and see how it does suppressed too.

My 5" 9MM Pro is a great shooter. I shot the pistol 250 at Gunsite with it last July and did just fine at the long ranges.
I also own a 5" 40 Pro but no rounds thru it yet. Too much work and not enough play!!

Re: My new M&P Pro

Bar-Sto is making 500 barrels for Apex Tactical. These are all in 9mm. This should fix the accuracy problem some people have complained about.

Apex/Bar-Sto M&P Barrels – Release Date: December 2012

The Apex/Bar-Sto M&P barrels are nearly ready to roll out the door. After more than a year in R&D, the barrels are on the way from Bar-Sto. The initial batches will be for the 4.25” and 5” 9mm M&P’s, so those of you with a full size or Pro / L M&P will have yours first. Fitting services will be available from Apex or you can have them fitted by the gunsmith of your choice. The 4.25” Apex/Bar-Sto barrels will retail for $225.00 and the 5” barrels will retail for $235.00. The first batches of barrels will not be available as extended and threaded, but those features will be offered down the road.

Re: My new M&P Pro

I have several M&P's and love them all I've been wanting to get a pro 9mm to add to my collection as far as the Glock 35 i had a 34 it was the best shooting glock i ever owned and i used it in idpa for a while but sold it and went with the m&p because the ergo features were alot better for me.
