I love having a "spare parts" box. After long enough there are eventually enough parts in it to build a new rifle. For this one, all I had to buy was the Magpul stock and the CMMG barrel.

Pretty standard build, but this one is mine.

Lower: Mil-spec random brand forged
Upper: Mil-spec random brand A3 flat-top
Trigger: RRA fixed
Stock: Magpul OE
Buffer tube: Random commercial spec
Buffer spring: 11" / carbine spring
Barrel: 16" CMMG w/ pistol gas system
Forearm: YHM rifle-length free float tube
Sight: Primary Arms Micro Red-dot
Grip: Magpul

As yet untested, I need dies and brass first.

Re: My Random parts-box 300AAC Build

I've had it kicking around on a 22LR for a while now and it's been great for squirrels, this is my first try with it on a more serious caliber. The height with the riser is perfect for an AR, but the quick-detach mount is junk on mine. It springs open randomly at any time, so I have it set to the "open" position all the time and torque the bolt down from the back side to keep it on the rail - so it's not quick detach at all its just a regular bolt-on type.

Compared to my Eotech or Aimpoint there's really no comparison, the view is dim and bluish and the PA reflects a lot of red light off the front of the sight which can be very noticeable from the business end of the rifle.

Interestingly enough, it's part for part identical to the red-dot that came on my Sig 556, and has the same very bluish tint as the SIG branded one.

For this rifle it's fine, there's no back-up sights or alternate aiming devices so if it toasts then the shooting day's over for that rifle. I'm not military or LEO and don't depend on my guns for anything besides fun and hunting, so it works for me. IF I were going to rely on it I'd add some front and rear flip-ups and move my Eotech over to it.

Huh, I've never heard of that happening with those, the QD lever acting weird. PM Marsh1 on here, he'll take care of you.
