Well..not quite what you were expecting is it?

I've officially started a makeover on a newly received 1955 Mosin Nagant, Chinese 53. (Not the sniper model,..I know. I'll probably have to relocate this post...once I figure out were to put it)

The before pic is the 53 with just a basic cleaning with lemon oil to get a pound of cosmoline off. I spent a whole evening getting all of the old varnish, etc. off and some minor sanding. The stock is sanded to a 400 grit level, prepped and ready to stain. I'll let her dry for a day or two first. This is my first time redoing a wood stock! Wish me luck.

LOL! Was expecting it to be more Chinese spam for cosmetics or enhancement surgery!

Looks pretty good. Were there many dents/dings? Or did you steam them out first?
