Would make it easier on the driver's foot...at least at Daytona.

I hope this season is less boring that the last couple. Hopefully, NASCAR got the message.

Re: NASCAR is back

Danica is on deck to run Daytona Cup. I wonder who's ass she is gonna kick when she gets bumped

The only toyota with an issue seemd to be that whiney Bush kid because they had the wrong rear gear set up...heh heh heh, 8800rpm trying to keep on pace. That motor is SO done!

Re: NASCAR is back

Yeah, but Montoya will be the first to cry foul when HE gets bumped. I think between him and Waltrip there are more cars lost to, oops, did I do that moments. Me, I just am stoked RPM went with Fords for Andretti, Said, and Khane. With Rousche Fenway, and Woods Brothers all running Fords Chevy, Dodge, and Toyota will not have a chance when the new motor hits the filed for good.

Codenamed the FR9, this new motor was tested last season and will be ready to run later on this season. Totally new stuff, and nothing the same as the older 351. I think it would look good under the hood of my old '66 'stang too!

Not sure how to interpret that as I find game shows boring.

They'll put a plate on it with holes you couldn't drop a 22 through, that will slow it down.

Yes.

NASCAR was exciting when the drivers were allowed to race. Been a long time since I heard, "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday."

Oh you mean that racing series where they all line up in a predetermined order of expenditure funded by there manufacture and parade around a track....

You can like or dislike any form of racing (I love WRC), however to sing the chorus of "NASCAR" doesn't require real skills shows the very same ignorance you imply in your post.

Re: NASCAR is back

NASCAR drivers are drivers period. They run road races in Daytona Prototypes or GT cars and they run road races in their Cup cars. Some of them have a history of running open wheel stuff or closed wheels as well and have just chosen NASCAR as their way to race.
WRC, that's racing! Me, I loved Trans Am, and still like to watch the road races for the other classes. Nothing, however, gets me on the front of my chair like a good Flat Track race or some top fuel V-Twins on the strip.
NASCAR is always good family fun here in our house because Panty 6 is a rabid Mark Martin fan. She's been following him since he was running all the different series and NASCAR was known as Winston Cup Racing. Me, I am just an overall Ford guy. I dig the NASCAR racers a lot, but this one is my favorite:

Even though I am not too much of a NASCAR fan, I worked for them doing on track rescue for 6 years. Got to see almost all of the driver's either behind the scenes acting like spoiled brats or after a wreck at their hissy fit throwing worst. Mark Martin is one of the few drivers that is a gentleman through and through. No misplace anger, no uncontrolled tantrums, and absolutely respectful of every person he meets. Truly one of those guys who makes you want to be a better person after just five minutes in his presence. Tell Panty6 she picked a pretty good guy to place her chips on

Sooo...your answer to the question is no.

I never said any drivers were not talented. I never said any series were bad. I just posed a simple question. And, without answering it...you still answered it.

And, by the way, I happen to enjoy WRC also.

Bill Elliot is another.

It's natural to get pissed when you're knocked out of contention, but Elliot always said something like, "well, we got together coming off turn two and I hit the wall. That's racin'.

It is obvious random inferences are not your strong point. Exactly how did you arrive that my answer is no?

By my accurate description of the last few years of F1 racing, you could definitely surmise that yes I have seen an F1 race or two. With the exception of last years season, recent F1 series have been a joke. Neck deep in drama, rules changes, etc with very little in the way of good racing. Too many changes to tracks in the name of safety with the result being very little if any passing. Not to mention the elimination of any pit strategy etc. Is F1 amazing on a technical standpoint, certainly. But, like most things simply spending millions on top of millions does not make for exciting racing.

Re: NASCAR is back

HELL YEAH! i have completely given up on jr. and pretty much made "smoke" my main guy, the guys talent with any kind of car is amazing, he has the weight on his shoulders of being a team owner and driving and still kicks ass. most people have no idea how many other races he enters, dirt tracks and many others, this guys lives to race. reminds me of dale sr. back in the day, get in his way and he will take you out, rub him he will bump you, bump him he wil wreck you, i love it, cant wait to see these cars with the bigger plates too

Re: NASCAR is back

I like Team Rousche, but Biffle is my favorite driver. We were watching the race in The Glen a while back and after teh big crash wehn they were running under yellow, we were right by the pit entrance on the fence. You could feel the heat from the cars. I waved a big Number One to Biffle and he revved that engine to high heaven and dropped right quick for a quick spin as he looked over at us. I tell ya he was looking at US when he did it and nodded. That motor sounded SO sweet when he did that I was kinda hooked from then on. That was my first and only NASCAR race. I can't wait to see one out here

Re: NASCAR is back

Switch,

Used to sit in a truck on one side of the safer barrier in the chute between turns 4&7 at Infineon Raceway, damn near one of the fastest places on that track. When the cars came by they were anywhere between 3-4 feet away and running flat out. The energy when they were packed up 6 or 7 in a row would flat out make your hair stand on end. When one would run a little wide and smack the barrier it would wake you up too

Re: NASCAR is back

Ah, the return of the good ole roundy round boys for another season. Hopefully there will be some good and safe racing. With the formal legitimized return of bump drafting this year we could be in for a few spills before people get their heads on straight, especially with the less than stellar talent, and hardware tooling around at the back of the field. It could also lead to some boring races where two cars just walk away from the rest of the field.

Unfortunately, I am envisioning a repeat of last year with Jimmy walking away with championship again. He and Knaus seem to have a special connection in addition to the best equipment in the sport right now with Hendrick’s. They are deadly consistent and perform when it matters. No reason the dynasty won’t be extended another year. Hopefully my fears are unfounded though. Would be great to see Smoke, Mark Martin, or dare I say it one K.B. at the top of the roster when the dust settles.

By far my favorite part of NASCAR though is the road courses. There is nothing like watching a 3,600 pound car with 900 horsepower get hustled around Infineon. They also maximize the impact the driver can have on the result, all good stuff. The Nationwide cars at Montreal are another one of my favorites.

Speaking of road racing, any American Le Mans Series fans here? I can’t wait for Sebring. It is going to be an epic GT2 battle there and everywhere else. Porsche vs Ferrari vs BMW vs Corvette vs Jaguar vs Panoz (go Lizards)
I can’t wait!!

LMAS you and all JR's other fans going over to cheer for Smoke.

Re: NASCAR is back

lol pretty much, i will always be an earnhardt fan but jr. is not doing so good lately, but hey they all have bad streaks. maybe with the new rules of bump drafting and the bigger plates will bring out his old driving style. we will see. my folks are already at the track, they camp on the infield from wednesday to monday, i went 2 years ago and wow daytona is nice, ill be locked in my seat all weekend watching, have fun guys<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Phil1</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: rackchaser71</div><div class="ubbcode-body">HELL YEAH! i have completely given up on jr. and pretty much made "smoke" my main guy, the guys talent with any kind of car is amazing, he has the weight on his shoulders of being a team owner and driving and still kicks ass. most people have no idea how many other races he enters, dirt tracks and many others, this guys lives to race. reminds me of dale sr. back in the day, get in his way and he will take you out, rub him he will bump you, bump him he wil wreck you, i love it, cant wait to see these cars with the bigger plates too </div></div>

Re: NASCAR is back

I have been around racing my whole life.
Got to stand just a couple feet away from Indy cars flat out crossing under the Camel bridge up at Road America many times.
That will give you a weeks worth of wood.
Love the Le Mans and really enjoyed the super bikes at RA.
Back in the day we ran Stock cars for a short time.
There is just something about the show of NASCAR that I like too.
I pull for "Smoke" like quite a few other fans.
I wonder how the Danica show will pan out....could be interesting.

Re: NASCAR is back

smokshwn,
We used to hang out on Turn 1 just below turn two at Sears Point when the VERA and SCCA Wine Country Classic's were happening. No new racers can compare to those big block Can Am cars doing their thing at The Point. Standing by the pit fence as a Can Am Ford Lola or a Chevy powered McLaren rips by at full throttle just makes ya wanna poop. Seen some of th eolder F1's, and Indy cars there, but nothing is close to those old racers.
I really miss working for chump change and hanging out with my family and my Pop there. Those were seriously good times

Re: NASCAR is back

Man they stacked 'em up today! I was busy throwing wet mud on the ceilings and walls of my master bath and making a brush down texture so Panty 6 can repaint it. Watched the race in between the stuff. Tomorrow should be good.
Brews - check
'Haunch of Tarsk' for the grill - check
Chips and Dip - check
Honey Do list complete - check

Cool, nothing to do tomorrow but sit and watch the race...of course Panty 6 will be yelling at everyone to get off Mark Martin's case so he can win. Me, I will be happy to see a back flip when the checekered flag flies
