Is anyone here in the a States national guard shooting team?

Im going to be getting on the South Dakota team and would like some advice on what i need to practice up on.

Im not entirely sure what they shoot at these competitions as far as ranges go. I know they shoot m16 and m9's.

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you

Re: National Guard Competitions?

I ran the Alaska National Guard Marksmanhip Unit for years.

I shot mostly Composite Rifle (M14s) and Combat Pistol. They've changed more to "combat" style shooting since I got out.

The NG MTU has a "facebook" page where they discuss the shooting program and courses of fire.

First I'd go to the CMP Web site and get a copy of the USAMU Service Rifle Guide, and Service Pistol Guide ($6.95 each) They also have DVDs (for the same price) that will help you in the type of shooting you'll be doing. SDM video and Close Quarters Marksmanship Video.

I don't know where in SD you live, I'm right across the state line into Wyoming on highway 16.

I'm am putting on a CMP GSM Clinic June 8th. The clinic will also cover Modern Military Rifles. The clinic will be in Newcastle. This will get you started with the fundamentals. The cost of the Clinic is $5 plus the range charges another $5 for non-club members.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll give you more information on the clinic.

Re: National Guard Competitions?

My home town is Mobridge, straight south of Bismarck right accross state line.. I currently live in Grand Forks, ND.. I would love to come but that would be a whole days drive.

Im pretty good with the m16/m4 shot expert, 38+ all 7 years ive had the opportunity to. Was selected out of my company to go to an advanced marksmanship school. We shot long range using m24's and m14EBR's.

The one spot i have no experince in is the pistol. Which has to be the m9 which is terrible.

Thank you for the info.

Re: National Guard Competitions?

The M9/92FS is an easy pistol to shoot, I shoot one in competition; Steel, USPSA, and Multi Gun, Plate Racks, etc. Once you start that it will come together, It's about learning the gun.

Mobridge isnt that far from Spearfish. We have various pistol matches every others Sunday at the Spearfish range. Nothing huge just a bunch of guys shooting. Only cost $5 and there is a bounch of guys that will help you get started right.

That and get a copy of the course of fire used at Little Rock, and practice.

You'll be supprised how you pistol shooting will come together.
