Maggie’s NBC article on athlete with "alternative lifestyle"

Congratulations to him for winning gold, and having a great family. At 23 though he is no different in "maturity" than the millions of young men and women who go out and work hard to provide for their families (and pay taxes to provide for the others). However, we see few other positive examples in the media as most "news" media outlets like to focus on the immature and irresponsible acts of 23 year old stars and starlets. It is starting to become the norm for young people to be expected to act like asshats in today's mainstream society. I believe this is because there are too few stories on young adults doing the right thing...but then again, that would make the news boring and nobody would tune in. I don't know whether to be happy that NBC aired his story, or irritated in the way it was told.

Off my soapbox. Once again, congratulations to Mr. Wise

Welcome to the new normal.

Given the current situation with student loan debt at all time highs, let's assume that going to college is the norm, and sticking around for graduate school is pretty common as well. If you have a kid at age 21, i.e. you are at about year 3 in an undergraduate program, it likely means someone got knocked up and this is generally not considered a good thing. Look at home sales, you generally buy a house when you have a family, and these are down as well.

Mr. Wise has a beautiful family, and I'm legitimately happy for him, but it is outside the current norm.
