In discussions about the neck diameter of a loaded cartridge vs. the neck diameter of a chamber, I am seeing references to “Doughnuts”. Can someone enlighten me on what these “doughnuts” are?
A doughnut is thicker brass at the base of the neck. You can get it by forming one case form another and squishing down the neck. You can also get it by brass flowing from the shoulder into the neck area.
If you are forming brass its worth trying to find a method of arriving at your desired case that doesnt create them. If its unavoidable you wont be able to seat your bullets past the area where it stats. A lot of times you are seating bullets out long and its not an issue anyway.
