Can you neck size (and do a good job of it) a 6.5 Swede cartridge in the Redding Competition Bushing Neck Die?

The case measurements are very close, and (as you well know) since the neck die only does the neck and not the cartridge body...will the Creedmoor die not only work, but provide a good concentric resizing to a piece of Swede brass?

Well, I'd try to neck size the Swede on a Creedmoor neck sizing die....but I don't have a Creedmore neck sizing die. (Or any Creedmoor die's for that matter)

I ask as I may .....just may "dump" my two Swede barrels in favor of the Creedmore....for various reasons. But this thinking is just in it's infancy right now. Nothing is even being considered on the market until possibly this spring. If at all.

Try the Hornady 6.5 NS die, I have used it for my 264 WM and my 6.5 Creedmoor. The die is relatively cheap and works very good, check Midway thats where I got mine.

Tonytx,

Have you ever checked your reloads for bullet concentricity after reloading with the Hornady dies?

I ask as once I checked my Swede loads for concentricity, I was getting 50% with at least a 5-thousands run out. (Which is not acceptable at all).

So, I changed my reloading procedure....especially the neck sizing stage, and even the most important (which I had not been doing) was "squaring up) every time, the brass with my Forester brass trimmer, then cutting a good chamfer. This improved my concentricity (down to 2-thou or less) to 85% at a minimum for every "batch" that I loaded.

The reason for my long B-S on the concentricity is that my groups shrink up and hold very consistently with the bullets "batched" under a 2-thou conc. that those with the 5-thou concentricity. So...that's why I ask if you have done this with your Hornady die.

Ok, I need a nap now!!!

Thanks.

Dave

BTW....my shootin buddy called me last nite and said the Swede brass would not neck size in his RCBS competition neck sizer. Even tho the Swede brass is smaller in diameter, and the shoulder is not as sharp, he stated it would not work.

I don't know how the RCBS is set up (his is a bushing die) but there must be some catch-ball release for the brass, as if the brass could simply slide in there, it seems to me it would work. But again, I haven't actually seen it.

I square the necks every time and have a sharp chamfer cut in the cases. I then use a taper crimp so that I have consistent neck tension. My Groups end up pretty small, those are 1/4" squares.
