neck sizing .308

newb here asking for some help, what is your process for setting up neck sizing die? any help appreciated.........

I think some people only partial size the neck. I size the full neck almost to the shoulder junction.
Do you have a neck sizing die or neck bushing die?
Bolt gun or auto?
You can usually tell by looking at the neck how much is being sized by the shiny mark left. Smoke the neck if you have to. Run the die in and check the neck until you have the desired amount of sizing. Lock the die down when finished. Always lock the die with the case and ram fully engaged. Be sure to check the freshly sized case in your rifle.

In setting up a neck die, there is really not much error. A f/l die must be set to set back the shoulder a certain amount. With a neck die, you are not touching the shoulder, so you can just screw it down until you make contact with the shell plate on the upstroke. That should allow you to size the whole neck. If you are using a bushing die, about 0.1" of the bottom of the neck won't be sized no matter how far you screw the die in.

lee collet?... if so, your brass will almost never grow to trim till you FL it... and then, you trim after

You're going to have to F/L sooner or later. Depending upon your chamber, you will get 2-3 neck sizing runs out of the brass before it will no longer allow you to close the bolt without out undue stress.

Figure out how far to go neck sizing (x number of times) and then F/L size and trim the brass.
