neck turning cases

I have a ton of 308 cases I plan on using for
my 358win and 7mm-08 ..

on the 358win, I assume resizing to 35 cal will
thin out the neck so not much of a thickness
problem there.

but on the 7mm-08, will the reducing the neck
from 30 cal to 7mm cause the neck to be
to thick ???

if so, should I turn down the neck before sizing?

I'm just getting into precision shooting, not
much of a problem with my hunting loads since
I stay under 200yds, but for 500 might be an
issue

As far as the .308 to .358, use a tapered expander. You lube the inside of the 308 cases well and can make it to .358 in one pass. If you don't have a tapered expander, get one from your die manufacturer. RCBS and others make them.

As far as the 308 to 7-08, I don't think going down two calibers should be too bad. It will also depend on you what brand your 308 cases are and if you have a SAAMI spec 7-08 chamber. Winchester and Hornady cases have thinner necks. Federal 308 has thick necks. I found going from 308 down to 6.5MM (for 260 Rem.) even the Winchester necks were too thick. I found necking up .243 Win. cases worked better for going to 6.5MM.

Sizing .308 to 7-08 will make your necks about one thousanth thicker, that's unlikely to do anything but make them a slightly better chamber fit.
