So I necked down a couple of my new 6.5x47L cases using a Forster 6x47L FL die and got a donut at the base of the neck. Without having the rifle I'm loading for yet, I'm wondering if I should just stop and see if it chambers or do some more processing.
I have a forster trimmer with outside neck turner. I never have done neck turning, but decided to try it on one of the cases. I set it up to take a minimal amount of material off and to turn all the way to the donut just before hitting the shoulder. It seems to have done a great job, and I'm measuring .013 all the way around neck. I'm not sure what sort of neck thickness/tension I should expect but this seems to be ball park from what I read.
I'm tempted to go ahead and do this for about 50 pieces total but wanted a 2nd opinion. Maybe I should just back the FL die out a bit and see if that prevents the donut? Is it even a big deal since I should probably be neck turning anyway? Is .013 about right for the thickness of a 6mm case?
Thanks for any feedback.
