I am needing your input on optics for my two rifles. To clarify this, I won't be like brandon21 and get all butt hurt.

My situation is that I'm 20, in college with a part time job and just picked up a weekend job starting march 1. The money for these optics will need to be saved through April. Together I'm looking to spend one thousand dollars. My feeling is that while I could spend a bit more, it would be better served in training ammo. Especially with my savage, until I restock it and do major work, a 500 dollar scope will allow it to reach the full potential.

The range of shots I will take vary between 100 yards with a max of 450 so 90 MOA of elevation isn't needed. The majority of shots will be at 300 ish.

Gun #1 is a Savage model 11. It has a 1/9.25 twist and 22" barrel. Currently it has the factory simmons 3-9-40 that just really isn't good. The gun shows to have good groups( 1-2 MOA) even with factory loaded 100 grain winchesters at 100 yards and bad scope. I will be rolling my own ammo for the gun. It will pull double duty deer hunting so a variable power scope is needed. I'd like either a 4 to 6 on the low range.

Gun #2 is being built currently. It's an ar15 in 223 using a wilson 1/8 twist 16" barrel. It will be free floated and ammo will be home rolled as well. Range here will be the same except it will pull double duty as my coyote gun. I have no idea what scope to run on this but I do know that if I expect the coyote to come from real close I can use my ar15 with eotech. I guess I'm not overly concerned about variable power on this gun but I really don't know.

i would suggest you contact scott at liberty optics. http://www.libertyoptics.com he is a vendor here, a very knowledgable fellow, and a nice guy. i just finished an order with scott, and he was very patient and helpful.
i ended up ordering two of the new viper PST scopes due out in may, but he also quoted very good prices on the current model vipers. shipping is included and product is in stock. call or send an email, you wont be disappointed---cam

The Falcon 4-14x44 is a lot of scope for the money. It's MIL/MIL and FFP. I have 1 on my 16" DPMS Sweet 16 (AR platform), and another on the way for my 17 Remington. They run about $400 from RWgunsmithing.

You could also check out the Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 or the new Bushnell Elite 4200 3-12x44 FFP MIL/MIL. The first will run you about $579 from Libery Optics, the latter $699 (which doesn't leave much room for the 2nd scope).

Gun #1 - SWFA 3-9x Super Sniper ~$600
Gun #2 - SWFA 10x Super Sniper ~$300

Even leaves a little for rings/bases if needed. Both of these are known to be decent starter scopes, the 10x has a great long-term track record. The 10x has MOA adjustments, but otherwise everything else is in Mils.

Both of these magnifications fit what you want to do nicely. Both of these scopes hold their value very well.

I have to agree with gun #2 Package deal as stated above.
For Gun #1 SWFA SS 10x...for a few pennies more the side focus is the cat's ass in comparison. Yeah, it means saving a bit longer or eating a little more raman but it's worth it.
Look at the packaged mounting solutions that SWFA offers as well. They have an IOR kit for $158 or so and a few other options in that range that will do you fine until you feel like moving up to the Badger or other hardcore stuff if you need it.
Adjusting your trigger to an even set pull, a solid scope mount that works with a good scope, a bipod or good bag and you will do well from zero to 500M with practice.
Check the scope mounting videos and stuff at the top of the Optics forum, especially the one from US Optics on mechanically centering your reticle.

Gun 2 Would be a Super Sniper 3-9 and go for the special with free mounts etc link http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-3-9x42-Packaged-Deal-P44443.aspx

I just bought these two scopes and am pleased. Both have life time warrenties </div></div>

I've been looking for an excuse to get the SS 3-9x, but couldn't come up with one until the package deal. Thanks for the heads up.

How do the burris black diamond scopes compare with those of the NF, USO and down to the falcon or vortex and super sniper?

A buddy of mine got one of these and it's amazing! I'd have to find one used though
