I am looking for a solid and accurate .204 rifle for using on prairie dogs in particular. Cabelas has a sale on Savage 12 FV and their 10T-SR rifles - I had my heart set on a CZ in .204, but the price difference is attention getting. Any advice - or even other brands I haven't considered?

For prairie dogs, I was a die hard .223 guy for "moderate" shots - out to about 400 yards. But, once I started using a .204 built by Kampfeld Customs, it really is is much easier to smack them than with the .223. The Savage will work fine, and has the advantage of being able to use custom, pre-fit barrels that you can install yourself once the accuracy goes south on your factory barrel. I'd recommend a Tikka, but I don't believe they offer a .204. Howa is another brand of nice rifles, and they do offer the .204 in their Varminter.

Actually, Tikka does offer a .204 Ruger... and with the PVA Tikka barrel nut, you can do the same thing as a Savage. I was shooting my PVA-barreled Tikka .204 just yesterday, and cannot reccomend it highly enough.

I had a tikka t3x varmint stainless in .204 Ruger, it shot extremely well with hand loads(never tried factory ammunition).
5 shot group at 100 meters with 1 flyer(lay in the snow with a backpack as support), while testing loads.

Put a 6xc barrel on it now, but keept the .204 barrel for a later build(only fired around 60 rounds).
