Building a 300 RUM feather weight, would like to send my bolt out to be fluted and have the handle skeletonized. I have two bolts, a stainless and a blued. If I can get a good "two fer" price I may send both, one would need a coating as both rifles are stainless.

Lookin' for some feedback or suggestions.

If its not too late, dont cut up the handle.
Fluting the bolt for weight is silly. Fluting it to allow ice to break away or cycling reasons I can see. But your not removing weight. A 700s bolt wall is barely over 1/8" thick.

I know when building a lightwieght rifle everything that can be done seems like a good idea but money could be better spent.

Carbon wrapped barrels are the only way to go if super light is your goal. Spend 600 on a Rock barrel wrapped in ABS carbon fiber

I now offer bolt fluting. I could probably mill out the inside of the knob and back of the handle like the Rem 700 TI models if you would like. However, a smaller aluminum bolt knob than the typical tactical knob might suit you better. I can also install screws in the handle to bolt joint to offer some added strength.

I am doing a Christmas special now anyways. Contact me for details.

That was the last price I had heard. My instructor got a 50BMG bench barrel wrapped for $900 total he said. Thats for everything, and on a 50. I assumed based on that, and prior prices I had heard, that is was still around 600.

I know I read 600 somehwere, but maybe it was 600 + a barrel.

I looked into them last week, it's 900 bucks now unfortunately.

A 26" heavy contour barrel finished at 2.5lb is so sexy though...

I had my bolt fluted from Nathan Dagley. He did an outstanding job.

Kampfeld customs is also an excellent smith. He's doing my .260rem build. His attention to detail is amazing.

fluting a remmy SA bolt will drop about .5 ounces, a LA is about .6 oz... so for weight it's not a big deal.

However, it looks bitchin, and it has perks like clearing dirt and ice from the action. I am a fan of it for asthetics and such, but just don't expect it to make a big dfference in felt weight of the gun.

Have Kampfeld or Nate Dagley do you fluting. I hear that Kampfeld has a very quick turn around on his, and I have seen his work first hand... top notch!

Kampfeld will be doing mine in the near future, when I start on my new build.

Here is a Nate Dagley SSG fluted bolt. It looks awesome, but I don't think he's doing them at the moment.
