I'm contemplating using a Rem 700 AICS DBM bottom-metal in .223 for another rifle (a Tikka 595 in .223 for which there's no bottom metal made).

Trouble is, I don't have a Rem 700 .223 bottom-metal to check some dimensions on to start penciling up a plan.

If some kind soul with an AICS bottom metal for their short action Remington could measure from;
Center of rear screw to the inside rear of the magazine well and
Front action screw to rear action screw (center to center) - I THINK this is 6.5" on a .223 Rem 700 but I want to be sure!
Also what brand of bottom metal you're taking measurements from would be excellent.

I would be very grateful!
This hare-brained idea may never get off the ground, but if things worth out, this might be cool :)

Appreciate any measurements!

Edit; clarification - I know this is not going to be a "drop in"... there will be stock surgury, at the very least!

CDI makes one for the Tikka T3. How different is the 595 from the T3. Maybe Roedale has done some up for it, you could contact them also.

I apologise for the slow reply!
Internet issues...

Gene Pool; if you happen to walk by one of those AtlasWorx bottom metals, I'd appreciate the rear-screw to inside rear mag well measurment if it's convenient.

Austan;
I was unable to contact Roedale some months ago and quit trying.

Funny you should mention CDI.. I am now in touch with them, and they're helping me out with some dimensions.

Many thanks gentlemen!

It's difficult to find a good datum from which to reference any measurements. How close do you need? I could rig some better gauge blocks or mics and maybe do a little trig with the angles and get some better measurements. The mag box is tapered with respect to the flat of the trigger guard area. Tell me if you need me to try from a different reference (click for super-hi-res):
