I have a 700 5r and I would like to put a new trigger on it that is about 3 pounds. There are several that I have looked at in my price range 100.00 - 150.00 but don't know which is best.

It comes from the factory at 3.5 lbs and feels great.
You will have about twenty Jewell recommendations here in a minute, but I will not install one on a rifle I need to be field reliable. </div></div>
I would vote for a Jewell... but his price range is 100-150 so that means Jewell is out. I would have to say Timney would be a great trigger also especially for the money.
In your price range, go Timney. I like Jewell triggers and shoot several of them if you can afford to go a little higher. With that said, I also have multiple Timney triggers and they are all very nice. Don't think you give up anything by going with the Timney.
Tag, I just bought the same rifle and have been looking at either the Jewel or the Timney. I have both triggers on AR platforms, and like them both. In the 2 or 3 times I have dry fired the x mark trigger the rifle came with I didn't think it was full of suck. I've had rifles that came with a lot worse.
The main complaint with the Xmark is that the trigger is too narrow. Other than that it can be just fine. Our department rifles all have the stock xmark in the 3-3.5 range and the trigger is NOT a limiting factor in it's accuracy.
I would suggest you give it a shot and see how the xmark treats you. I am also betting there may be a good number of used pre-2006 triggers on gunbroker soon.
