Looking at a good way to get some accurate results from my Mk12. Do you have any suggestions on what sort of setup would be ideal for an AR15 with a collapsable stock?

I do the same as mentioned but go prone next to the bench, as long as the range allows it, cause that's just how I roll

I've found any AR tuff to shoot off the bench and bags. Ergonomically, they just don't fit that format w/o some unconventional modifications. Having said that, I've tested loads and gotten some excellant groups. My load testing is now done out of a sling.

Ended up going with a rest I found at sportsmans. Should work pretty well for all the AR's in the collection

This may not be a popular reply but, is the jack on the front going to wobble back and forth when you shoot it? That would be my concern.

I have been shooting rifles for about 37 years and in the past have let the rifle ride the front and drive it from the rear with my left hand. I noticed this year with shorter ARs and ARs in larger calibers the muzzle jumps quite a bit so I tried something different. Try holding the forearm like you would if using a sling in prone position, pull down and back into your shoulder but let the rest or bipod take the weight to steady.
just give it a try when no one is looking.

very interested to see how that rest works and NICE rifles btw, esp the mk12.. I just finished an 18"SPR build and the only great groups ive gotten off the bench have been with 40gr V-max's in a 1-7 twist.. They group awesome.

No kidding? The 40gr's group well? How well? I'll have to check into that round. Whats the velocity like on that round?

First, ditch the 30rd mags. Get a 20rd mag and shoot it off a bipod and rear bag, or a ruck and sand sock. And do it in whatever position you will in the field. If that's gonna be off a concrete bench that's fine, but they are hard to carry around.
Shooting from contraptions like lead sleds aren't only hard on the rifles, they are a complete waste of good range time better spent tuning the weakest accuracy link-the shooter.

I have quite a few 20rd mags and I do use them.
Imo, rests are great for fine tuning a rifles zero for that very reason - eliminating the weakest accuracy link - the shooter.

I have quite a few 20rd mags and I do use them.
Imo, rests are great for fine tuning a rifles zero for that very reason - eliminating the weakest accuracy link - the shooter.

Maybe it's AR specific, but I get better results <span style="text-decoration: underline">without</span> a rear bag with my SPR. Or maybe it's because this is how I prefer to shoot.
Best groups are from a bench height bi-pod (Atlas) and using my left hand on the butt. The stock is a UBR which is a little deeper at the toe, which helps.
My best at 700 Meters is 5 consecutive shots in 5 1/2" using a 77 SMK reload. I don't claim to be the best trigger puller, but getting hits at long range - for an AR, are more satisfying *to me* than shooting tiny groups at 100.

I use a Caldwell Lead Sled when shooting my AR. 30 round mags will not fit, so some 20 rounders come in handy. I typically am doing load development if I have the lead sled out. Its really not that comfortable to shoot out of ....

Do you have any pictures of this setup by any chance? What stocks work for you or have you tried in the Lead Sled?

Something to consider...shoot for accuracy with NO artificial aids much how you would if you were in the field with it. It doesn't matter how accurate the weapon is if its not accurate when coupled to the shooter.
I'm guessing if you were shooting it in any other situation you wouldn't have a rest or bags at your disposal. I don't consider a bipod/monopod setup "artificial" since it can be bolted to the weapon. You can also use a sling as someone had mentioned earlier to get better results from a bipod.
For load development I suppose I could see the advantage of rests/sleds/bags etc.
