Hi all,

I am new to this forum and also new to any sort of long range shooting. I recently purchased a Remington 700 in hopes of getting more enjoyment out of shooting. I made an impulse buy and bought a millet lrs-1 6-25x56 scope. I learned quickly that this was a mistake I had no idea of how big this scope was going to be and also somewhat worthless for the shooting I would be doing. Currently I have access to a 100yds range and a 300yds range. This leads me up to a few questions.

1. The rifle currently has a cheap set of two piece bases. Should i change to a 1 piece base I see everyone using and does this make any difference?

2. After doing some reading I am still a little mislead about what power scope i should look for. Fixed or variable power?
Would it be best to keep it simple with fixed power? (less to go wrong?)

3. Lastly I want to keep the scope small roughly the same size and shape as a uso st10 without the high price tag possible a 3-9 or a fixed 6 or 10

Thank you in advance for any help.
