need advice re building new project rifle

i am looking for advice on a new hunting rifle for next season, either in 257 wby mag or 264 win mag, and am leaning toward using a rem 700 mag action, shilen or similar barrel and mcmillan stock or similar. I want a stainless action and barrel. i dont know where to best source these parts, new or used, and any recomendations would be appreciated.

Re: need advice re building new project rifle

If you dont already have a donor action, you are better off picking up a Surgeon RSR/RLR from the group buy because it doesnt make sense spending all that money on a barreled action just to scrap the barrel and still have to accurize the action. ?If you want a Shillen barrel, Brownells and Midway is where I would look.

Re: need advice re building new project rifle

The RSR or RLR (S for short action, L for long action) are Rem700 footrpint custom actions that require no trueing (accurizing) and come with a heap of features one woulf pay extra to have done on a regular 700 action.

list of features
Side bolt release
True 1 piece bolt
double pinned recoil lug
precision fit double pinned scope rail/base (optional, but highly recommended)
Threaded bolt handle with knob options.

by the time you buy a donor action and have half the things on that list done to it, you are already over the price of the Surgeon action.

Re: need advice re building new project rifle

i have a few hunting rifles chambered from 240 wby to 338 win mag and was thinking about something for deer or smaller that would reach out and touch on long range s texas shots. i dont reload so was also hoping to avoid true wildcat type rounds hard to find.i am open to suggestions though so please let me know what you are thinking.
