Rifle Scopes Need AI mount STAT!!!

OK...

Got my new Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25x56 today. I went to mount it in the same AI 18moa dovetail mount my PMII 4-16x50 was in, and the turret housing contacts the mount.

What do you guys who run this scope use to mount it? I would prefer a dovetail mount, and I can't wait for the Spuhr mount to come out, I need an immediate solution so I can get shooting again.

AI makes a 45 MOA mount just for this scope. The mount is available for both dovetail and pic rail. The dovetail mount is what I use for my AI AWSM with this scope.

Found this article that shows a 28moa mount machined to fit the turret housing:

Dont buy another one. If you have someone that can mill out a tad bit of material and paint it back black.

Yeah, I'm going to check out machine shops tomorrow. I'll order one if I can't find one right off.

A son of a machinist did it for me for free. It took him about 10 minutes.

I took it down to a place that machines drag bike parts. I told him what I needed and he brought me back the mount milled down (which looked great) and re coated it with some high heat paint. I am happy.

There's no way I would purchase another mount for such a trivial clearance issue. Carve away a little material with a Dremel to get you back in the game, then have someone clean it up on a mill later.

^^^My day off tomorrow though, I'll check a machine shop and see if I can get it done. I don't have a dremel, lol.

Dremel's are cheaper than redundant mounts, and quite handy to have around...

It's the rednecks hand mill.....

I know, I've been needing one for a while, just never got around to it! I'm just saying that I can probably mill it in lieu of needing to dremel, in lieu of needing a 45moa mount.

Yea you now have a good excuse for a dremel tool. If the wife asks you are actually saving money.

Milling out the lower MOA single piece mounts from AI works rather well, I have 2 done that way, then the 3rd one I was too lazy to go get it done so I got the 45 MOA one.

By their measurements, I need about .030 taken off. Does that match with what you have done?

Got my mount back, .030 seems like it was more than enough, for future reference for anyone looking to do this modification.

This worked out well, because it only cost me $15, and now allows me the time to be able to wait for the Spuhr group buy!
