I'm trying to cut my teeth on some precision shooting, I purchased an FN A3G, and I'm looking to pick up my first decent scope. My primary range is limited to 200, but I wish to stretch my capability out to 700 yards at another range when I get up and running. I'm looking for a solid scope to learn on, and was considering a Nikon tactical in the wts forum. I'm wondering if this scope would give me the most potential, or if an offering by swfa might be a better choice. Id like to have something that I won't outgrow for quite some time. Basically, I prefer new, but if the Nikon is a clearly better choice, then if have no problems taking a used scope...sorry I'm just looking for opinions. Thanks.

Re: Need First scope advice

When I was learning mil retical and needed a drable scope I chose a SWFA SS 10x. I know it has MOA knobs but the optics and retical are good and the scope is the most durable at that price range that I have come across. Add in a mildot master, butler creek caps, a rail, and rings you are on your way. Rings are a personal choice as well I started out with Burris Extreem Tactical Low rings and EGW 20 MOA rail.

I have since moved on to bigger and better things but still have my original set up and shoot it often.

The SWFA SS 10x scopes get really good reviews from guys on this site, never used them myself but they are pretty popular on this site. I'd also recommend TPS rings they are $20.00 more than the Burris XTR rings but much nicer fit and finish I had a pair of Burris rings and they were OK but I like my TPS much better, just my opinion.
