I went to my LGS to pick up a keg of 4350 since I am getting low but I came out with 4451 because they had it priced so low and I figured the temp stability it offered is a plus too. The keg of 4350 was $189 and the 4451 was marked $156.00, they had two more and I should have picked it up but I can always go back. Anyway since this powder is new it’s not in any of my manuals. I’m loading for my tight necked. .30-06 and using 210 SMKs. Does anyone have any guidance for starting loads ? When I do a search most info is either for the 6.5s or if I can find I for for the ‘06 it is for the lighter bullets. Thanks for your help

Hodgdon tops out at 200 grains. In looking at how for each 10gr you gain in bullet weight you drop down about a grain in powder (180=51.7, 190=49.9, 200=49) I would extrapolate that 48 is a reasonable starting powder charge but the 200gr speer drops 2 grains, likely due to increased bearing surface.

I would probably start with the lower 47.2 and work up my overcautious self.

Look on the Hodgdon site for any info you need and don;t have in a manual. http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle

That said they don't list 4451 with the heavier bullets but 4451 and H4350 have almost identical burn rate. With the 208 and H4350 the minimum listed is 47.6grns so the recommendation above wouldn't be a bad one.
