Hello all,

I have a Remington 700P 308. I just recentled decided on a Leupold Mark 4 ER/T 6.5-20x50MM with the M5 Turrets(Haven't decided on the Locking Turrets or not, recommendations?) anyway I need to order a base and rings and I have no idea what to get. I would like to stick with Leupold because I get a discount with them, but I'm not against using another company.

What base do I need?
What rings do I need?
Do I need a 20 MOA base? (pros/cons)
What's the difference between low, medium, high rings? (pros/cons)
Steel or aluminum?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Need help picking base and rings

I'd go with Seekins Precision. They are lighter than the Leupold and imho a little nicer looking. Cost will be about the same even with your Leupold discount.

Use the Seekins calculator on their website or simply call them to figure out the best height. 20moa base is the way to go fyi.

SWFA.com Stocks them, as does Liberty and CS Tactical I believe.

Re: Need help picking base and rings

If you get a discount with Leupold I would just get the mark 4 20 MOA (or is the Mark 4 15 MOA?) and the Mark 4 rings whichever ones are about .885" should work with a 50mm objective.

You will want the canted base because at only 20 moa, there's no chance your scope won't zero at 100 yards, and it's only pros because it gives you more elevation in the up direction. It won't hurt using a base that's not canted, but it won't help you like a canted base does.

As far as rings, weight is never an issue for me since I don't hump my rifle except pretty much to the shooting line, so I usually get steel rings, but the aluminum rings will not be any less tough, they're just lighter.

Re: Need help picking base and rings

I am thinking for myself. All I asked was for opinions. You don't control my wallet or what I buy, clearly I will have to think out what I want to buy before I actually buy it. Thanks though.
