Hi guys anyone have any loads with retumbo and the 6.5 saum using the 150 SMK's? I have a 8 twist 24" .2985 neck and .100 freebore.
Thx
Elmer

No, but Im interested in this as well.
I have a thread going in the reloading depot for the 6.5saum with the 150smk but Im using H1000 with good results now that I found out those 150's like to jump a lot (0.110").

Yes i have been following your thread, what freebore do you have on your reamer?
As I cant get over 58 grains of H1000 or RL-26 without pressure at around 2950-2970 fps from mine.
Thx
Elmer

I had my gunsmith use a unithroater to cut the throat so that the dummy round I loaded was kissing the lands.
I can get you the base to lands measurement if you like, I don't have it right now.

Just curious on your over all length base to tip when you get a chance.
My mag wont let me touch the lands with it in the mag, my base to tip is 3.015" and I'm going shooting tmrw
using Retumbo this time RL-26 was give me crazy flyers not sure why yet. H1000 was not bad but was getting pressure early with it.
If I can get under 1 moa at 200 yards and 2950 to 3000fps I'll be happy.
Thank you,
Elmer

I ended up around 60 grains of retumbo
For 3070 out of a 26” .081 freebore
2.960 oal or 10 off

Im using a long action and not restricted by mag length.
COAL is 2.998" with a base to ogive of 2.257".
Today I settled on a load of 62.2gr of H1000.

Just an update on todays shooting. Benchmark barrel 24", 8 twist, 150 SMK, retumbo, jumping them .110" my gun doesnt like them at all it became a shot gun 3"to 5" groups at 200 yards.
My other 6.5saum doesnt mind them about 1moa at 200 yards same 8 twist but a Krieger barrel all else the same.

I started with a ladder test, gave up and went to seating depth testing, then back to ladder testing when I found a good seating depth.

.110 thou jump is insane.

Three different GAP 4S chambers/barrels (.081fb), 150s have all ended up between 10-20 thou off. Not to say that they won’t shoot elsewhere, that just seems like more of an outlier than anything.

I am working on the same set up but with 26in 7.5 twist Proof. I will be doing a pressure test later this week with Retumbo from 59- 61gr in .2gr increments. Running Norma brass and BR2 primers. My overall length is 2.905 which is 0.010 off the lands. Only have 30 rounds on the barrel so far...

Any info on how this went defiance? Im getting my 6.5 saum barrel for my dt soon. 26” 1-8. Really hoping to shoot the 150 mk with retumbo. Hope it stabilizes. It has .120 freebore so i will be able to seat them way out there.

So I loaded 59 to 61 gr of Retumbo in .2 gr increments. Results were...

59.0 gr. 2955 fps
59.2 gr. 2990 fps
59.4 gr. 3015 fps
59.6 gr. 3016 fps
59.8 gr. 3016 fps
60.0 gr. 3028 fps
60.2 gr. 3036 fps
60.4 gr. 3031 fps
60.6 gr. 3055 fps
60.8 gr. 3060 fps
61.0 gr. 3055 fps

I did not see any heavy bolt lift or pressure in my rifle. Again I now only have 42 rounds through the barrel so it's still in break in stage.
