Guys, I'd like to mount a shotcam onto my AR-15 (top rifle depicted below). This AR has the typical old fashioned forearm grips and thus can't be used to mount anything on it. Other than a bayonet lug rail, which my rifle does not have, is there something that'll clamp onto the barrel without interfering with use or accuracy? I Like Magpul but I looked around and didn't see anything on the net I could use.

There are a number of solutions from half-a$$3d, rigged-up ones to $300+ handguard upgrades. The barrels clamps fall into the half-a$$ed category in my mind because they can really screw up accuracy by exerting addt'l stresses/strains on your barrel.

There are also railed handguards that will clip in to your standard handguard cap/delta ring, but like the A2 handguards, don't free-float the barrel. They are available from a large number of mfg's, including but not limited to YHM, Midwest Industries, etc.

Finally, one of the cheapest solutions (especially since you don't need to worry about losing your zero with an optic/iron sight), is to get a rail section made to bolt onto the A2 handguards through the handguard vent holes at 12 and 6 o'clock like these:

Without free floating the barrel, any weight you hang on the barrel or forearm is going to screw with your accuracy. Even a tight sling in a prone position will pull your barrel out of line. A solid free float tube attached at the barrel nut that totally floats the barrel is the only way to mount accessories on the forearm without affecting accuracy.

I don't know how heavy a shot cam is, but the heavier the accessory, the more it will screw with the harmonics of the barrel and thow shots all over.

dl, pm's not working for some reason. I am interested in you rail for sure as long as it's in good shape and is priced right. Plus I live in Madison Al so lets help each other out.
