Need some 40x info

I am currently selling a 40x .22lr in exceptionally good condition. The bolt matches, the wood stock is excellent, the finish is without any rust. This 40x is marked US on the receiver, but I was told when I purchased it that it was not a CMP rifle. Today I got a question from a person stating all US marked 40x rifles had to be from CMP.

Can someone shed a light on this for me? Any truth to this? I dont want to be misrepresenting my rifle. I assumed there were other means of obtaining these rifles besides CMP.

Any help is appreciated.

40X info

If the info in the above link is correct, you have one of the 5000 rifles ordered by the U.S. Army in 1960. I couldn't say if that expressly means it went from them to the CMP, but I'm not sure how a government rifle would've made it out of the system other than theft.

Re: Need some 40x info

The link mainly details some info on the USMC contracts which were 57 to 59 IIRC.

The Army/ROTC purchases started in '55 and went into the later 60's for sure. My newest XB from CMP isn't US marked but is a 34XXX that is '67 but I can't remember the month and am too lazy to dig it out.

I can't read the SN on beenjammin's rifle for sale but as it is a 700 based rifle if in the 21,XXX to 23,XXX or so range then it is a 64-65 rifle and in over 30K SN range then probably 67ish. Just guessing SN though.
