Need trigger choice help rem 700

Looking to upgrade my trigger on my 700 sps. 270. This is my hunting rifle and was looking for something $150 or less. I know a lot like timney and I just put one on a buddy's rifle. Nice trigger for sure but, I wasn't really a fan of the width. Had to widen the bottom medal to fit. No big deal but was looking for a direct drop in for my rifle. Didn't want to have to file open the bottom metal seeing as it has been recently cerekoted and don't want to remove the finish. I keep reading mixed reviews on the rifle basix and seen a few post discuss slam fires. Don't want anything to due with them if that's a possibility. Was wondering if there were any other triggers that would be recommended?

Been doing a little more research and see the timney 517 has a flat trigger. It looks slimmer than the 510 but can't be 100% sure from looking at the pics. Anyone have the 517, and can you confirm if the trigger is slimmer? Looking for a direct drop in and don't want to have to widen the bottom metal. Also, what are the opinions on using a straight trigger in a hunting rifle?

what rifle does you buddy have? my timney dropped right in my 700.

He has a r700 also in 7mm mag. The trigger was touching the left side. I had to remove about 1/32" of material to get good clearance. If it would've been positioned center it it probably would have cleared. I guess some rifles fit a little different. Maybe I will just chance it and get the 510 and hope for it to clear.

sounds like an issue with that gun in particular, I have dropped a couple 510's in without problems. Great trigger BTW.
