Always said I would never own a 1911 but, at the same time, always wanted a Springfield EMP. I scratched that itch today....3 inch Springfield Ronin EMP

I only have one 1911 (DW Valor), but it's by far my favorite handgun in my possession.

I love the craftsmanship of a well made 1911, I can see why people spend a lot of money on these handguns.

My last Gucci 1911 was a DW Specialist. There is just something special about the Valor and v-bob in black. I don't think there is a better 1911 out there for the money.

    I love my Valor.

It seems like you have to spend A LOT of money on a 1911 before you get any appreciable gains over a DW, so I definitely they're a good value.

And I love the black duty finish.

I have many Government Models, and three 1911s (one Franken gun, one Remmington Rand, and One Colt).

For $2k I'd go Arcadia Machine & Tool, Hard Baller, long slide, and spend the difference at a gunsmith who can polish everything up and make it run like a sewing machine. Then again, I'm Generation X, when Terminators used huge flashlight sized laser pointers on their Hard Ballers...

You have to spend twice that to get something appreciably better. A higher end WC or EB ect. I will take a dw Valor over any Baer, nighthawk or springer pro.

I went through a phase where I was collecting and learning how to build 1911s. The DW Valor is definitely a really good example.

But being a car guy and a gun guy the only one I kept was the Les Baer. I thought it was really cool how it came in a plain cardboard box with the signature of every gunsmith that touched it.

I disagree. I don't own a DW, but I'd take an older Les Baer or a WC over one. I have a Wilson Jewlery Store, Colt, Combat Commander with ivory grips that my Dad had him make in the early 70's before he opened Wilson Combat. I say it's a BBQ gun, but it's smooth as hell and functions flawlessly. I bet it would easily bring $6k if I ever wanted to sell it, but I couldn't legally unless I removed the Colt Ivory grips, thanks Obama.

Clark Custom makes some gorgeous pistols too. I've always wanted a blued "Full Meltdown" long slide.

If you Google "Clark Blue Meltdown" the first series of pics are of my buddy's stag handle pistol. Beautiful.

It’s legal to sell the grips installed on the gun.

As I understand it you have to prove it’s antique/pre ban, or you can’t sell. I can’t get a “Wilson Combat Letter”, like I could with a Colt, so I don’t think I could sell it original as built…. Doesn’t matter, because I’d never sell it, but just more woke bullshit. There are still elephants because of hunters and safari. If there were no hunters elephants would be extinct. How do you think they pay for wardens and game police?

EGW will have single piece guide rods and flat wire springs if that is your thing, springs last a lot longer. I have one for my 2011 now as well, I take a dremel and I bevel the inside of their reverse bushing so I can take it out and put it in without a tool, and yes, it works and is far better than needing a tool to take the gun down. You're beveling the inside edge of the hole, through which the guide rod goes, it funnels the rod through and gives a little extra clearance. Did it on the one for my 1911 and did it on the one for my 2011.

My S&W 3" 1911 didn't have issues with anything from 50gr to 147gr hardcasts, bought Wilson Mags for it immediately and would always recommend that, so 3" 1911s can be reliable.

Most comfortable holster for me ended up being the Invisi Tuck Extreme, though it took me a while of wearing it to like it at all, then one day, it clicked and bam, favorite way to carry it.

A Bill Wilson build (not WC) on a Colt base would probably bring double what you suggested. Elephant ivory’s are about $450-$500. So…

In the U.S. prior to 1990? Check

    Integral component? Check

Ivory doesn’t account for 50% of value? Check

    Ivory is not raw. Check

Ivory grips weigh less than 200 grams. Check.

Item was manufactured or hand crafted before July 6th 2016. Check.
BFC nails this one. Pun only partially intended.

I’d love to see pics of the gun, hope you give it a workout every once in awhile. I’ve bought, sold and kept some 1911s that weren’t exactly cheap. The $10k guns have and would leave before the 1918 rattle trap in my avatar. It’s a shooter (with mouse fart hand loads).

Damn, those are some thicc ivory grips. I remember Nutmeg would cut extra thick ivory grips for 1911’s on request.

I used to love looking at their website, but I never bought anything from them. Honestly, all their non-ivory grips are just as beautiful...(no Schreger Lines!).

I really wanted one back in the day, but bought a Colt Defender in 45 ACP instead.

Let us know how yours shoots!

    Oof.

Not to be a dick and not to try to jinx you... but if you should have any trouble with it, don't blame "the 1911".

    Good luck and enjoy.

The good reviews far our weigh the bad. I knew the risk when I bought it. I appreciate the well wishes. Fingers crossed.

Being an uncool, somewhat Fuddy (my guns, not my politics) boomer I've never understood the dislike of 1911's, I love mine. Yes, my carry gun is a plastic 9mm that holds 17 rounds and......I guess I just answered my own question.
