So I have a remington 700 VTR in a .308, and I hear that acusport is selling a modified version with 5r rifling. Does anyone know if it is possible to just buy the barrel, and where can I find it?

Re: New 5r 700 vtr

If you want a nice 5r barrel, get one from a custom maker rather than Remy's production version. 5r is just an angle specification on the rifling. It is not inherently accurate by itself, it is only accurate if the barrel itself is well made. There are many more examples of super accurate standard barrels.

Shoot what you have first and see what you got. To give it a fair test you'll need a better stock and a good bedding job.

After you do that, some Fed GMM match ammo will show if the barrel you have is a keeper or not.

There is a Remington barrel that comes in 5R and the triangular profile, like your VTR. Take a look at the 700 Target Tactical. It comes with the triangular 5R barrel, and a Bell & Carlson Medalist A2 Adjustable Stock. A factory barrel might save you some coin...
