New AR build mag release issues

I am having issues with a new AR build. It is with the mag release. It is very difficult to seat & release magazines. It only happens when the upper & lower are together. It doesn't matter if the bolt is locked to the rear or forward. I have tried multiple mags & they are all doing the same thing.

Other than that, the rifle functions normally (bolt release etc). If I separate the upper & lower, the mag release functions normally.

The upper is a Vltor MUR & the lower is a PWA(preban) receiever.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I assume you're talking empty mags?

Yes. Empty 30 rnd mags.

if full mags, remove one round- try again

if empty, you may have a problem with tolerances.
Do you have a different upper to try it out with?

No I don't. I think I am going to find another rifle & see if I can "plug & play" to see what the issue is.
