I have a Sako TRG 42 in .338 that I'm a huge fan of! I bought it after shooting my father's TRG 41. It's getting to be time for his rifle to have a new barrel installed on it and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas. It's a shame that Beretta won't help with that, but such is life I guess!!!

Please help

You might try searching for it here. In the past couple of weeks I saw a factory take off 338LM in the for sale section.
If not there are many on here that could re-barrel it with an aftermarket bbl. Personally, I would opt for a heavier contour than the factory tube.

I like Stainless in a barrel. Not that chromoly is bad, but it will rust quicker in the bore. Generally this is a non issue, but if you shoot when it is wet you run the risk of putting it away with some moisture in the bore. Stainless is not infallible. It will rust, just not as quickly. I do not clean my rifle after every trip to the range, so this gives me a bit more piece of mind.

You have a ton of knowledge base at your disposal better than I. We have more than a couple custom barrel makers represented on this site.

Which i guess brings us to my next question. I'm now to this site and haven't quite figured out how to navigate it just yet, and was wondering how i search this site for custom barrel makers? I've been shooting custom match AR-15s for a while now and am aware of the big guys (Krieger, Hart, Lilja, etc...) If there is anyone that i'm missing, i appreciate some clues on how to search for such things on this site!!!

Thanks again all for the help :)

Re: New barrel for a Sako TRG 41

Well,

Those are some of the larger makers. A lot of the ones on here may be some you have not heard of before.

Broughton
Bartlein
Rock Creek
Satern
Brux
Obermeyer
Schneider

All of those makers are well represented by customers on the site. A few of them have representatives that frequent the site, but it would be best to call or email them.

Now, use the following link to do ANY and ALL searches of Sniper's Hide. It is a custom google search engine that restricts queries to this site only. It is way better than the forum search tool and will give you more than enough reading if you search for any one of the names above. As a plus, it will also keep you from asking some questions that may get you flamed.

Josh, speaking of which- how do I tell if I have stainless or chromoly? The gun is phosphate finished.

This is correct as far as I know.
