Hey all,

Just a heads up. There's a new Conan movie coming out late-ish summer. It's really good. I won't give out any details, except to say that it's pretty brutal, and it's not at all campy. It's a real "guys" flick, for once. I'm super-excited to be working on it. Release date is Aug 19, and it will be in 3d.

Yup.

The original is one of my all time favorites. Hopefully this one is in that same vein; over the top gore and plenty of female nudity.

Ah.....no.

Right. Good call, dude. Thank goodness you could clear that up for us. Especially considering that you're in a position to know. Oh wait...

This flick is badass. I've had a lot of movies pass through here, and this is one of the few times that I remember why I really love my job. It's really good. Is it perfect? Nope. Will it entertain the hell out of people who love action movies? Fuck yes.

Thats cool.... I agree with the above posting, I hope that they put a great effort with a lot of tallent into that movie and are able to pull off a masterpiece... and not a flop.

He looks a hell of a lot more believable than a guy who can't act for shit. Seriously, Arnold's best role was the original Terminator because he didn't have to talk.

Just curious...who would you cast as the lead?

Yeah... It's gonna be hard to think of anyone but Arnold playing the roll.
I think Mamoa did a good job on Stargate Atlantis though.
It looks like he worked out alot for the filming of Conan.....
Hopefully he can succeed at the roll.
I guess we will see.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

I've never come out and given an opinion of a movie I'm working on before it is released. It's the first time. I get paid the same amount either way, so it's not like I'm going to make more money by telling you guys that this thing rocks. The only reason I'm doing it is because I think you Hiders will dig this one.

Here's Stephen Lang describing the film.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Man, Stephen Lang has lost some weight and (likely) muscle since filming "Avatar". He's a great actor but has been largely ignored over the years.

Momoa as Conan? Nah.

Heh heh. I'm just a simple cave man. I don't know about these things.

Sound nerds like me don't get a lot of the high-society treatment and perks, I'm afraid.

I like to party! Don't know exactly what you mean though. I'd like coming out your way to meet you and some Hider folks sometime. The wife's parents live in Dallas. Let's PM it.

If you watch the original Conan again, I think you'll find the total amount of lines spoken by Arnold (not counting grunts) would probably fit on a post-it note or two.

I'll take a view of this too.

I actually think he did well in that role, but maybe I'm biased because I enjoy the movie so much.

ALso, RIP Basil Poledouris. Excellent composer and Conan the Barbarian is probably his best work and is perhaps the greatest score of all time. No matter what I promise you there is one thing the new movie has 0 chance of matching, and that will be the music.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

The original Conan has always been in my top 10 list. I own the soundtrack to the movie composed by Basil Poledouris.

There's something about the gritty primal nature of the original that made it a game changer. All the other fantasy films of the genre that followed were shallow imitations.

Arnold was also at his prime then. He was a beast and his physique is what made his role believable. This new Conan doesn't look "larger than life" like Arnold did.

I'm skeptical that this new one will stand up to the original unless you base movies solely on special effects.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

I actually just saw the original on cable a couple weeks ago. Campy, but a fun movie. I'll definitely go see this one, but the dude just needs to be more Arnold-esque. If there was ever a role AS was supposed to play, it's Conan. Maybe he'll make a cameo as one of the old rulers or as the god Crom.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

The original had one of the best movie quotes ever.

Mongol general: Conan what is best in life?
Conan: to crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Fuck. I was excited about the remake, but I took a guess at which SGA character it is, and I HATED his Ronan portrayal.

I might have to skip this one.

Re: New Conan the Barbarian movie

Movies are movies, to be judged on their own, without any preconceived yardsticks. The original Conan was seminal and epic. IMHO, Sandahl Bergman and Mako were the real stars of that movie. Arnold was Arnold.

This is another movie, with an equally vast potential. If it lives up to even half the potential shown in the teaser, I'm gonna love it. At very least, they have a capable actor for the villain.

But right now, I have no idea, and except for the privileged few who have already seen it, neither does any of the rest of us. I love it when folks judge a book unread, and a movie unseen.

Until August...
