I am installing a new firing pin assemble in a factory Rem 700 long action bolt.Ditching the lock .I know how to remove and replace. Inside of bolt looks like crap even after cleaning. should I try to polish it ? How?I'm thinking a hone. What is the best lube for inside the bolt?
Thanks Scot

Re: New firing pin install on 700

Just clean the crap out of bolt inside and out with some solvent. Let dry a few minutes.
Put some grease on the threads of f/p assembly. assemble and shoot it. Remember grease attracts dirt and crude. no grease or oil on spring or inside of bolt houseing. Will cause slow down if lock time if dirty.

No lube at all huh! I understand the attracting crud theory and agree fully. I use lighter fluid on my trigger ( as per kenny jarrett) Cleans, then drys leaving a ultra thin oil. Wondered about graphite(lock ease/dry slide) as it drys and atracts no crud have to test this unless sombody tried already with crap results
