Been reading this board for years, but finally decided to join after getting in on the LH actions being offered by LRI. I've always been an AR guy and have built many over the years, but this will be my first go around with a bolt action aside from swapping out the stock on my Tikka T3.

Just a guy from Rochester, MN who loves to hunt and fish, doesn't have as much time to shoot as I would like with a couple young kids and a full time job, but still likes to supplement the man cave with toys I'll never fully get to use. I just think of it as investments for my kids. Former Marine (AAV's/MSG duty) from the 90's. I'll be looking to gain knowledge on obtaining the right quality parts to build off this new action and hopefully share what knowledge I can with other members in those areas I've got experience in. This is a forum I have always found to be well run and informative. Thanks in advance for all your assistance, past and present.

Welcome! I'm in Rochester as well, what style of rifle are you looking to build?

I have a 300WM Tikka T3 Lite in a Grayboe Terrain stock with factory DBM for a lightweight hunting rifle. I'm looking to build this M700 into a heavier barreled tactical/hunting rifle in 7RM. Probably collect all the parts and send it back to LRI to throw it all together once I find the right balance of components between what I want and what I need. I had a heavy barreled Savage I got rid of in exchange for the lighter Tikka, but there's just something about a nice tactical rifle that has always appealed to me. Sort of like my desire for a crew cab F250, even though I have zero need for a 3/4 ton truck. I guess I'll be looking for a good compromise between form and function. I've got many AR's in 6.8 and .308 which pretty much fill any "need" I might have. This action will be built on more of a "want". I've always loved the M40A1, as well as the M40A3 and the McM A4 stock, but I know there are many options out there today that might serve a little more practical purpose while still maintaining that traditional bolt action sniper/tactical rifle allure.

Nice to see another local member!
