Hello all. New shooter here, or new rifle shooter. I just purchased a Rem 700 SPS-AAC-SD in .308 from my local gun shop. 20in "threaded" barrel, 1in10 twist, I'm sure most of you know the one. Good times I hope.

My rifle experience is quite limited. I've been behind the sights a couple dozen times, mostly with the generous folks I meet at the range. I like to punch quite a bit of paper with my Ruger MkIII (Well as much as I can) but always take some time to envy everyone in the rifle area... Well not anymore, I'll be there soon. I actually have her on lay-away, funny i know, but they were running a great sale and although it wasn't the most ideal place to invest $599, I knew it would be well worth it in the long run. I still need optics, a sling and bi-pod.

So here I am. Be easy on me! All of this is new to me. I look forward to reading more, learning more and perhaps meeting some like minded folks in the Columbus Ohio area...

Re: New guy here!

Thanks. Can anyone take a stab at the maximum effective range of this 1 in 10 twist 20" barrel? I ask because knowing this info would help me choose a scope. One of the gunshop guys claimed it was a suburban/scout rifle and would only be effective to 500 yards. Nahhhh, more than that right?

Man, sounds fun but I wont be able to afford the scope till after your meet. I google mapped the trip you're 1hr & 46 minutes away. When do you expect the next match? I'd love to come out but I'd feel pretty lame without a rifle to shoot.

I figure I'll be building this thing over winter. Bushnell huh? I'm was leaning towards a Sightron SIIISS3.5-10x56LRIR4A.

He's not kidding. Been here two months and already spent a little over 4 grand. It's like being addicted to cookies and hanging out with cookie monster all the time.

4k on one rifle??? That's a lot of "cookie dough"... I know it can add up fast when it comes to the tacticool bling. I'm kind of plain jane and looking to buy functional purpose. Do you think you got 4k worth of accuracy/purpose or 4k worth of cool? Either way, that's a lot of money man. Do you have pics of this beast?

Hate to tell you,but,$4000 on a precision Rifle and Optics ain't Shit compared to what you can spend. That is without anything else you need or nice to have Kit such as a Range Finder,Spotting Scope,Wind/Weather Meter,Ballistics Calculator,Chronograph,Reloading components and equipment or really deep pockets for match ammo, lots of extraneous shit you never thought of that adds up quickly such as good quality cleaning equipment, torque wrench, tools, drag bag/hard case, sling, bipod, monopod, rear bag, shooting mat,targets........

Check the schedule here. Next shoot is next weekend. Yep, that Bushnell. Lot of guys are using them to great effect. Scope should run around 190 shipped, check around.
