Hi Everyone, I've been a member for about a year and a half now as a subscriber to the excellent online training resource on the site. I've never posted anything to-date so I thought I would show you all the rifle I'm working with and just give a general "hello".

I'm a photographer located in Las Vegas and have been learning precision rifles off and on for the past two years or so. I got in to reloading about 6 months ago as well and have finally nailed down a great recipe for this rifle.

Here is a link to a detailed ladder test I posted in the reloading forum. Link.

I actually found the rifle on consignment at one of our local shops and scored a pretty decent deal at $875. It was missing a couple swivel studs, but other than that was in like-new condition. I ordered the correct studs from Harris and was good to go! I even found the scope locally, I like to support local businesses as much as I can.

The rifle shoots very well, an honest sub-MOA shooter. I am writing a detailed range report with photos and data for ten five-shot groups for a ladder test on a hand load I've been working-up. I'll link to that post from here when it's ready.

When putting together this rifle I had a lot of uncertainty when purchasing rings, rail, and scope, regarding scope height and clearance, so I'll post all the details below in case this post might help someone else out in the future. While I don't have them installed in this photo, there is plenty of clearance for the Butler Creek caps.

Here are the specs:
-Remington 700 SS "5R Milspec"
-Nightforce 5.5-22x50 NXS NP-R1 MOA/MOA zero stop
-Nightforce 20MOA rail
-Nightforce .885 low rings
-Harris bipod BRMS 9-12 with notches
-Turner Saddlery National Match sling 52"

Thats a really nice setup. Have you had it out to the range yet?

My 5R shot pretty damn well, and I ended up selling it to a friend to fund my fully custom build.

The rings/base/scope were great choices... although there is no doubt in my mind they set you back more than the rifle

I think you should be really happy with that setup!

I have had it to the range quite a bit, I've had the rifle for about two years now. I have been working up loads for it recently and just completed a fairly extensive (for me) ladder test, which I will post the results soon. Thanks!

Nice setup. Sounds like a real shooter. I have found that the .885 rings are adequate for most scopes with 50mm objectives. I look forward to seeing your ladder test report.

The sling is made by Turner Saddlery, but I couldn't find it in stock anywhere (this was a year ago). The guy at JarHeadTop.com had one so I ordered from him. Thanks Marine!

Nice rifle, this post should help a few guys looking to buy a factory built precision rifle without breaking the bank. Can't beat the old leather slings, they are the only ones that i put on my rifles.

The sling is very well made, they do a good job. The leather is fairly soft and pliable for being so thick. The stitching and hardware are very well secured. I'd recommend Turner if you're considering a nice leather sling.
